I've looked all over Grainger, etc. and not found what I need-or can't describe it in a search. I'm looking for an adapter to chuck into a 1/2" drill and use it to drive 1/2" drive sockets. I have about 140 lag screws to set and it would be nice to do this with power. Anyone know of such a beast? As an alternative, I have considered using a cheap 3" 1/2" drive socket extension and sawing off the female end, but this seems like a poor alternative. Any better ideas?
Electric impact gun, cordless or not. Air impact or ratchet, it will work off a pancake compressor, Do you have one of those speed handles for your ratchet set? Did you ever use it? If not cut it up. I have seen such adapters in 3/8" size in drive kits. Maybe that and an adapter?
how big of a lag bolt are you going to use? I wonder if a drill would have the torque. then I wonder if it would just spin in the chuck before they got all the way in. I'd just cut the end of an extension and be done if I were going to do it with a drill.
I did exactly what Nick recommends. We all have a variety of 1/2" extensions in our tool box, cut off the female end with a zip cut and your good to go. You will probably use it again!
time to make a sacrifice to the tool gods , I cut a 3/8 extension and used a 3/8 to 1/2 upsizer to do what your doing , also make 3 flats at 120 * apart intervals so the chuck jaws have a spot to clamp on to to prevent spinning , or you can go to HF and buy a cheap 1/2 drive electric impact gun for $50 I thought I would never use my adapter , but its great when you have long studs on the car and want to drive down the lugnuts on them
I had to do about the same thing a few years ago. Bought a $2.00 flea market extension. Cut the female end off and ground three flats in the shaft. It worked fine.
These aren't nut drivers. I have found these at Home Depot, lowes, and harbor freight. The sawed off extension works but its hard on your drill
Lag screws or the loc set [maybe wrong name, can't find the box]..I drove 1,362 couple years ago with a variable speed 1/2" electric drill...
