What method is the best, what method is the cheapest, or did you bag it? All questions I have. I will continue to use the search function also, but would like to hear from those who have done it, and maybe a pic or 2 of the finished process.... thanks
I agree with Scrap Iron... I cut about a coil and a half and installed 1" block in the rear of my daily driver. Drives great. Very affordable way to do it.
560in-lb. 65-66 Mustang springs in the front, 1 coil removed (for now). Custom 6-leaf springs from ESPO, 2" less arch. Cheapest? Cut coils and blocks. 3" is the max for practicality, and even then, you might not be able to fill the trunk, or use the back seat. 2", if it is a real driver.
Yes to the Shelby drop, but that does NOT lower the car by much more than 0.40". The Shelby drop relocates the upper control arm to change the camber curve during suspension cycling. It is the single best, cheapest performance handling suspension upgrade for cars with this chassis, but not a lowering technique. Costs one drill bit.
Ok I'll bite, what's a Shelby drop? And what is the advantage? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
The black 64 is my daily, and the green 60 is my wife's. I have a coil and a half off the front and 1" blocks in the rear on both of them..
Mine isn't a 64 but I cut 1 1/2 coils in the front & 3" blocks in the back. 185/65/14 ft tires 225/70/14 rr tires. Revernd Paul
Depends on budget.... Cheap is cut and block. If funds aren't a problem the correct way is to call Detroit springs and have them make some to your car for the height that you want. http://www.eatondetroitspring.com/ They made front and rear for my fairlane with 3" front and 2" rear drop, ride great.
I'm looking for the best way to lower a 64 wagon that will have 17" rims, going to do the 5 lug conversion, will run the 6cyl / automatic for now, but I am thinking the disc brake conversion up fron, but need to figure out how to convert rear drums to 5 lug.
You would be best off replacing the entire rear axle, especially if any more power is in the future.. The 6-cylinder Falcon's came with a dainty rear axle. There are also access holes in the axle flange face, which disallow re-drilling the pattern.
hy, i cut the springs for 1 coil and want to do now the shelby drtop on my 62 comet. are any further modifications required? thanks
