I'm switching to 12 V on '35 Ford, installing one wire alternator as well. Already have changed all the bulbs. Gauges don't appear to need anything as Gas gauge is pressure type no electric and it shouldn't matter on the amp meter. Been told starter will be fine and turn faster ( a good thing ). - With the stock '35 ( new wiring ) in place can I use the existing generator wire in harness to connect the one wire alternator? Looks like yes looking at the wiring diagram? - Do I need to convert from Pos. grnd to neg. grnd as part of the 6V to 12V / alternator conversion? If I do dose anything else need to be changed. - Will the coil connection be effected?
Yes you need to go to neg ground. Also reverse the connections on the coil and add a resistor before the coil. You will find the amp meter now reads backwards, reverse the wire connections on the back of it. Temp gauge mechanical ?
How did your conversion go? I'm working through the same project right now. I'm trying to go to a 10SI alternator with the Offenhauser pully, but the belt channel is off by about an inch. What did you do for the alternator?
Use this as your 6 to 12 volt check list: https://www.ebay.com/gds/6-to-12-Volt-Conversion-1955-Ford-/10000000001571127/g.html When you use a one wire alternator it is important to use the correct size feed wire this is where guys end up in a mess. https://www.tuffstuffperformance.com/files/pdf/1-wire_alternator_instructions.pdf
