Are Cragar S/S chrome wheels considered traditional? They have been on the market since 1964 and the company has been in business since 1930. Check out my '39 Ford video http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=863565
They are period-correct for a 1960's era build (that means a car that looks like it was built in the 60's, not necessarily a car from the model-years of the 1960's). If you're wondering if they'll be allowed in a particular show, you'd have to ask an event promoter, but most shows that have a 1964-earlier parts cutoff will allow Cragars as long as they are not wearing modern raised white letter tires.
I'd like to say yes, for the reason you named and because they look(ed) so great on so many cars. Take a look at a set on a black '57 Bel Air and you'd think they were designed just for that car, the look is that good. I don't know if there's a '50s or '60s domestic car that doesn't benefit from them, whether it's a '55 Ford, a 62 Galaxie or a 68 Road Runner. The problem is putting them on earlier cars. Then it's a matter of how the particular car is put together and its stance. A '40 Ford coupe might look great with them while a sedan would be better off with a set of painted steelies...Here's my '66 Nova in 1969 with Cragars and my buddy's sedan in 1979 with 60's Ford factory steelies.
Not a good picture but here is my first car, 1965 nova with sst's. Super tricks have always been my favorite wheels, have them on my current race car.
Very Cool '39 - Cragars would not be right for it. if needing to change look a little how about steel chrome wheels? maybe with spider caps.
Cragar SS wheels are my favorites for that "look" I like. Had 'em on several cars, 69Dodge-Photo taken at our Garden Grove, Ca. Apt when I was in the Marines 1969. Set E/S record (with 4 bbl) at OCIR, Irwindale and Lions that year ran high 12's at 106-8 with 7" tires and we drove it to work every days to Santa Ana. Fun bulletproof car!! Towed a U-Haul trailer back to Georgia with it and the 4.10 gears!! Glad gas was cheap then! by Wagonmaster2 posted Jan 7, 2011 at 2:05 PM
I always loved the look since the first time I saw the wheels around 1963 or 64 They just have a very cl***ic look that fits most cars. Jimbo
