The T-Bolt in posts #2354-5-6 is the one sold through Acord-Connaway Ford in Eldorado, Illinois, Driven by Bradley Wagner and ? Fields. Supposedly the parts were stripped from the wreck and the rest was buried. Syl

Here is a view from the starting line of the crashed Thunderbolt at the 1964 Nationals at Indianapolis. You are looking at the side of the car as it is still on its roof next to the ambulance. A wrecker is blocking the front part of the car. Sorry for the poor photo.

Was it the trend to run a Blackwall on the rear and thin white up front?

Thin white walls came out in 1962. lots of guys ran them and then had their blackwall cheater slicks on the back ......for the drags or street racing.

Looks like a rare shot of Arnie Beswick running his '65 Comet! Any information where this is ... what publication it's from? A higher resolution scan? That'd all help in tracking down the Plymouth.

I think the Belvedere you were thinking of was the car he campaigned early in 64 (the pic you posted on the Classic Funny Car board).

That's me in the stands...I was at the 66 Indy Nationals as a spectator.

I used to race (at that time) a 56 Chevy 210 2dr as a Jr stocker, at the local tracks around Omaha then.

A racer from my area won the 1966 Indy D/MP (I think) in a 55 Chevy (orange?)

A group of us guys just decided to go...had no room to stay in there,... but ended up slepping on the floor...in the same motel room as the 55 Chevy guys.
(Oh, for the good old days of 1966 when in was about 20)

Remember Grumpy in Nova, and Linda Vaughn in her prime. Tons of Anglia gassers. Stone Woods and Cook.....George Montgomery Willys AG/S gassers

Was the "Buckshot" Corvette running then....seems to ring a bell.

This is a great forum !

    Hope this helps.

There are FX cars and then there are NHRA legal FX cars. Here's some photos of legal FX cars, and some that aren't...

'63 Chevy Z-11. To my knowledge, these cars were never legal for S/S competition at NHRA National Events.

A Chevy Chevelle with the stock wheelbase and OEM type suspension would be legal.

    This Chevelle wouldn't.

A '63 "Swiss Cheese" Pontiac Catalina would be legal.

    This one wouldn't.

This '63 Pontiac Tempest would be legal.

    This one wouldn't.
This '64 Dodge would be legal (not more than a 2% wheelbase modification).

    This one wouldn't.

'65 Mustang (fits within the 2% rule) would be legal.

    This one wouldn't.

This Mercury Comet would be legal.

    Not a chance.

  22. Not sure what point you're trying to make. FX evolved (almost on a weekly basis, it seemed) and what was "legal" changed to fit the innovations going on. The fact that a lot of those "not even close" ones still have AF/X on their sides make me think that either they were legal or the owners (like Al Vanderwoude) didn't really care if their cars were "legal." Just my opinion.

Several of the cars in the photos that had FX or A/FX on them WERE once NHRA legal FX cars. But there was no money in racing at a NHRA National Events, plus there were only four NHRA National events in 1965. Many of the cars that were once legal for FX racing were modified for "match racing", where pretty much "anything goes" was the rule of the day (run whatcha brung), and there was money to be made. So you are correct, the racers didn't really care if the cars met any NHRA class rules.

The last one is Len Silvers "QuickSilver II" possible the first all fiberglass, tube framed SUS, FX, XS, what have you. Won in NASCAR and NHRA. Kicked the record around in E/XS with a few others before going full time with Fuel.

Looking for anyone who may remember a 64 Plymouth Savoy Stage III campaigned throughout Texas in the 60's, 70's and 80's called, "Aggravation"? The driver was named Roland and had moved to California around 1986.

The Plymouth was/is Black w/ Red interior.

Crazy. The car has just over 1,500 miles on the odometer. You would think someone would remember the car running with all that mileage coming 1/4 at a time.

I just saw your post showing that Thunderbolt. We where walking in when we saw that car making a pass. It looked as if he blew the motor and got into his own oil or he might have broke an axle. Whatever , the car barrel rolled in front of us and the guy was hanging out. My buddy seems to think he might have died. On video we took , you can see the car on the wrecker across from us.

  29. That's crazy, but the car is really destroyed and would explain the damage. Do you have the video posted online somewhere?
