Hell of a difference from how it looked at the start.

  2. My first time, too. Come a long ways, over a long period of time.

Looks good Jay. The idea is for the pearl to be inside the trim and non pearl everywhere else?

  4. Last minute decision, not to run the Impala moldings. But yeah, that was the idea. I think the contrast would've been good, and not too much. The stock moldings will look better on here. I am going to spray pearl white in the inserts, for the Elco's original moldings, tho.

  5. Got a lot done today. Nothing worth pictures. Just working with the inner fenders and what not. Fun fun

  6. Today was another loose ends, day. Getting things ready for paint and primer. Not necessarily in that order, tho. Core support and upper bumper valence are next

Looks like you did the same repair i did on the corner pieces, replacing the bottom. Must be fairly common.
Things are looking good and you are making a lot of progress. Keep up the good work.

  9. Today I'll get the core support painted, then I can hang the fenders, once I get some paint on them. I started the bed panels a while ago, just had to finish things up. Thanks for the words!

  10. The last off the rust.. gone! Core support and inner fenders shot, work truck black.

No more rust? That's a huge step forward! That must feel sooo good. If you keep moving forward at this rate I wont be able to have mine on the road before you... You just pulled in the lead and I probably wont be able to catch up with you now. Im really looking forward to see what you decide on your interior.

  12. I was looking at the interior of this Elco. I like how simple the seat looks. But I'm thinking my paint color is so plain, I need to have some eye candy inside. Something to look at, rather.

  13. An yeah.. when I ground off the last of the gold paint from the headlight 'C', I definitely did the happy dance, inside. It was a great feeling

Maybe something simple with 2 contrasting colors?

Or maybe some knobs like the horn ring?

  16. Yep, with just the right accents.

You could be on to something there!

  17. I've been following yours, Cody's, 1959nomad's and enloe's posts while I've been overseas the last few years, and it's awesome to see yours so close to being done! I definitely learned some things I can use on my 59 Safari build when I'm home in a few weeks. Keep up the good work!

  18. There's a lot to do, but I just focus on the task at hand. I don't feel like I'm almost done, but at least the bodies painted. I wasn't thinking about the engine and trans, but I'd like to get them in there, before the front end goes back together. Thanks for the good words. Are you overseas in the military?

  19. I'm former military, working in Kandahar as a civilian. I'm leaving next month and hope to have my stude or the wagon driving for the summer.

Been following your thread for a while. Glad to see you got some paint on the 'ol girl. Looks like it laid down well. Awesome werk by the way. Keep up the good werk!

  22. Thanks for that. For not having a booth, I think it came out ok. I appreciate the good words.

  24. I can't believe someone designed that dash, an someone else, ok'd it. Eeeshh

I made these corner pieces, but can't find them. I found the old originals, great for patterns, but that's about it. So I had to make some more.

Air bag's were not an option in '59. You just took home from the lot and drove it as is.

  26. Lol for real. That's funny, Mr.Gee!

    nice job on the corners.
I did make one too using a hammer form but did not like the way it turned out. Then found a set of originals, so I'm GTG
What gauge did you use and how did you round the edges?

  28. I have to improvise, when I'm shaping things. My dad left a can of tools, he used to straighten stainless moldings. So I used a lot of those, to get me where I wanted it. Then I used the torch, to help shrink some of the corners. I used 16gauge
