Is there a slick way to remove the bright red nameplate that Edelbrock puts on the front of their carbs? It appears that they attach it with rivets of some sort. Not sure whats behind them if anything? The nameplates sure kill the looks for an old car.

either grind the rivet head or drill the rivet head off and then grab the stub with a pair of vice grips and rotate counter clockwise as you pull them out . ( some are straight some had a twisted shaft )

They are AFB's, mine have Weber castings. I don't know if the newer ones do but I removed the tag on mine it looks like any other old AFB pretty much.

Good one! Anyone who thinks the new Weber built carbs look like an AFB hasn't seen an AFB!

Maybe I'm too old but as long as it works I don't care what it looks like. Jeez! If you're worried about what people will say just keep the hood closed.

I solved the problem by getting some 20 year old Carters, and leaving the Carter name plate off when I overhauled them. I also dusted the outside with the bead blaster to take off the shine, while I had them apart.

Carter 750s go for around $50 each used

once dipped into my MAc's Carb dip ( old formula) , its hard to tell the differance, it eats the shine right off .

I personally hate the bright red name plate that can be seen from across the parking lot. A dead give away that it is a modern build and the lack of authenticity turns me off. I tried all the solvents with no success. I think I just pried out the rivets. I sold the carb before it had any gas in it but that ugly sign had been eliminated. ;-)

Jeezus H. Christ, even ! You guys (or gals) who want THE LOOK should get your original '97s, not the new ones, run them on your rides, get ****ty mileage, poor performance, vapor lock, and breakdowns on the side of the road on the way to the rodruns. NOW you can call yourselves traditional. I will stop and ***ist you however I can, but expect a few giggles when I don't see that red label on the carb that you DON'T have. Keep the ****ing hood closed if you are paranoid. Happy motoring.

Edelbrock makes one version based on the AFB, and the other one on the AVS carb. Both work great on street driven vehicles

If it gives you all so much heart burn WHY did you buy it in the first place? Didn't you look at it first. I have a AAA card and a cell phone but don't want to use them when I go out cruising, just want something that works. Off my soap box, I'm gone.

I'd suspect most of the type cars you talk about here are zip code cars...meaning they don't venture out of their zip codes, let alone several hundred miles on a rod running trip...!!!

I put a brand new 750 cfm Edelbrock, right out of the box (and left the label on it) on my 500" Caddy and then drove it 4,552 miles without even adjusting the idle...don't get any better than that...!!!

In case any of you care to read the adventure, go here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...hlight=events+4552+miles+two+weeks+three+days

I put a Qjet I had rebuilt a few years ago on my 57 Suburban last summer, and I've put over 13k miles on it...and still haven't adjusted the idle mixture.

The "better" part might be how little money I have in the Qjet, and how well it drives.

I do have dual 97s on my Studebaker powered 34 Ford PU. It has never left me, broken down or over heated. I don't give a **** about mileage. I replaced the Edelbrock carb. with 3 Deuces. Rochester's. Yes I drive it when I'm healthy. I've been through them a couple of times with no fault of the carbs. I do call myself traditional. I redid the carbs myself along with the coloring. Do a search and you may find my tech article on 3 twos. The 97s and Rochesters do just fine. Only a hotrodder will care. A streetrodder may have to call his personal mechanic if he has a problem.:D:D

Help me understand. In your mind, as long as it's NOT authentic, but looks that way, it's OK?

How about those stick-on Buick portholes? They look authentic......

OK now you are just talking ****. You don't really want an honest answer.

Yes I go to a lot of trouble to make my rides look authentic.

Well, taking the nameplate off a edelbrock carb is one small step but it's still a **** ugly carb in the end anyway.

I suspect the majority of the so called drivers on here are just that, zip code cars. Yes there are the reachers, long distance dependable drivers, but in the minority. Ok grab the popcorn because surely many will refute that statement.
An added note his question is no lamer than the, what wheels? what color? threads

Zip code cars. I hadn't heard that before. I like it. There seems to be bunches of them now.
