I've got a 1955 Chevy 3100 with Paint Code 723. The inside is painted gold or yellow. The outside was either gold/yellow or green first. Can anyone tell me for sure what code 723 is? Its a truck code and I can't find any info on it online.

    Thanks,
    Lance

Well the ***le has VIN VH255N016871 but the VIN tag is missing from the pillar. The frame is stamped 56K019886 by the drivers side exhaust manifold. The engine is stamped F0620GF which I think is a 1955 265. Any ideas? Is is a 55 or 56?

The ***le is for a 55, but the truck is a 56. I wonder who's truck you have a ***le to? and how you'll get a ***le for the truck you have?

Post some pictures of the truck to help us ID it. Where did you find the "723" paint code?

Well luckily I'm in Alabama so I don't have to have a ***le for it being this old. But I bought it in TN and that's what the ***le is for. I wonder if I should call them or not. Hmm. Is there any other way to verify that this is a 56? Such as gauges, switches, etc? The engine seems to be a 55 but I agree that the frame is a 56.

Nevermind. I just did some research. It definitely is a 56 because the side emblem is above the fender crease. Not sure what's up with the motor though.

The motor is newer, you can find some more dates on it if you look...each head will have a casting date (remove the valve cover to find it), the intake has a casting date, the block has one at the very back which is kind of hard to see when the engine is in the truck.

The engine code is interesting...I don't recall when they started using 4 digits for the date on the ***embly stamping. GF shows up as a 1957 turboglide FI engine, which they probably made two of, so it's likely it's a newer engine? more numbers would help identify it, both the casting number and casting date code from the back would good to know.

So I'm thinking 56 truck, maybe a 55 engine put in it, 67 saginaw 3spd, forest green w/white interior?

Does the engine have an oil filter? Does it have bolt holes for side motor mounts? If yes to either of these questions, it is not a 1955 Chevy 265.
