Over the years I have casually been looking for information about the Winfield brothers with very little success. Thought I'd give it a shot here. Attached are a collection of photos that I have pirated (most if not all from this site) to kick it off. I think its' time to start a conversation around these guys!
Isky learned what he knows about cam grinding and design by looking over Ed Winfield's shoulder. The man was a true genius.
I took my first Chrysler cam to ED to get it reground. He was in San Francisco at the time. Very hard of hearing. He had an Offy block sawed in half on the floor of his office. Said Troy blew in in practice at Indy and thy decided to saw it in half to get a better look at the casting.
hitchiker... no offence ment. When I plugged "Winfield picture thread" (as suggested) into the search I came up with what appeared to be pix of an open house at Genes shop. I had not seen the thread you mentioned. I'll go back and review that more closely but I'm really more about the history of Ed and Bud, rather than the parts and cars they developed. For instance... I understand that Bud did most if not all of the driving chores, while ed was the brainpower behind the speed parts. true?
Here is a link for you http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=814312&highlight=winfield No offense taken. Any info you can provide would be awesome! I'm a big fan of his parts and would love to know more about him and his brother as I haven't seen much info out there. thanks!
