  1. Funny how it seems that move ahead 1 step back 2 . Anyways door removal to get at this little mess on the door bottom . Only had a couple hours on the car last night but got a decent amount of work done . Have a look ! A little progress is better than none ! Andy..

  7. Thanks Dave . I see that you are moving along as well . Brakes done ? Check , good work !

  8. Well I got all the rust dealt with on the right door . Onto more body work . As much as I try I get panel warpage and have to fill the small valleys . It pisses me off to say the least . Even going slow and controlled the shit still happens  . Anybody else have this issue ? Sometimes you cant get behind the panel to give it a good wallop so what's a guy to do ? The door bottom finished out good . Prime , seam seal and call it done . The pictures of the front fender are after a modification that removed the Buick reveal at the bottom . The fender reveal around the fender fades to nothing at the bottom section . In previous pictures you might have noticed that the rear part of the front fender arch was lower than the rocker line . that's now fixed . Hence the picture of the fender . Also the overall picture of the car is showing the profile is starting to take shape now that I took the car down off the jack stands . Later , Andy...

When it comes to welding I think everyone has warpage problems.
I found that straight lines and square corners tend to exaggerate this problem.
I found making rounded corners and arcs along long runs help to reduce warpage. This has been discussed here on the hamb.
    Looking good Andy.

  13. Yeah Your right on all fronts . I never thought of running a slight wave in an otherwise straight cut . I was always of the mindset to make a weld in the shortest distance possible . Andy..

Seems like more work up front, sometimes, but less in the end.
Still have to planish pick and bump.either way. If you don't use filler, you may never finish,
and maybe go insane. Some can do it without filler, and we all strive for that quality, but......

  15. This is true . Sometimes I get so agitated that I have to relax with a beer and kick back for a few minutes then jump right back in !!!

    Andy,
after faithfully following your thread, for two years
i'm trying to start a build thread. to keep me inspired, and maybe some others.

so far I have only posted pics you have seen. Edited and with some explanation
    come visit.

  22. Cool I'll be right there . As Alice Cooper said welcome to my nightmare !! The Shane Asylum !!

  23. Well a few more pictures to show . Now you see them now you don't . I filled in the trim holes on the Buick door . Seeing that I have no trim and its very hard to find and expensive another route will be taken at a later date . The car was painted once since 1951 and in that one time , they removed all the side trim and bronzed in the holes . Third is showing the trunk that is now shaved of all the badging and the lock mechanism . Lastly is the front fender pretty much ready for primer . All blocked . it still needs a few minor touches here and there but 98% done .

    Andy...

  24. Am I missing somthing ? Did HAMB just get sectioned again in the last week ? Traditional hot rods and traditional customs only now . MY thread is now back on the hockey ass message board ?? Anybody else seeing this ???

  25. Got on the headlight opening today . Shows the gap from fender to ring on the first picture . Starting to make some filler panels to reduce the amount of filler needed . 3 ,4 and 5 show them welded into place . I welded apiece of 3/16 CRS at the centerline . The last picture is one half of the lower filler piece. Once I take the fender off of the car I will follow the weld penetration line inside the fender and cut out the original fender skin . This will allow any water from washing and or rain to not get trapped between panels at the headlight ! You will see at a later date ! More pictures in a few minutes ! Andy...

  26. These last few show the preliminary shaping of the headlight surround area ! Starting to take on some shape !! That's it for now . Had some buddies over for a visit on the progress and a few beers . Sometimes it's good to step back for a bit sit and shoot the breeze . You can probably figure what we were BSing about  ! Andy..

  27. Well haven't posted anything for a while . Just been doing boring bodywork . You guys know how that is I am sure ! I do have some progress to report and show . The right side is almost done. The brunt of the filler work is 95% . Just a bit more around the door glass surround area . There is a little bit of a tweak at the transition point from top of door to the B pillar .Full side in primer now and has some guide coat applied . Looks pretty straight in primer anyways , we'll see ! I was able to strip the trunk lid tonight as well . Its a really good lid topside but just a little bit of patching on the inside left corner to do . This should go into primer on this weekend as well then its onto the rear window opening .
