Damn man your tough on him.
I remember in tech school helping with the assembling a ford flat head V8 getting the valve keepers in was a challenge for us punks took two nights to get it.

  5. Anybody making after market flat head blocks yet? Never could understand why Dart, or World Products etc. ,wouldn't do this. Seems to me, they would sell a bunch of them.

  10. Son of a gun...you know the secret....the "intake" is called the valve cover....shhhhh, don't let anyone know, or they will think I've gone over to the "dark side"

  11. Ok, an old school 505! When I worked with Dick Gazan ('84-'94) that and the 511 (4.375 bore)was our favorite combo. -2 Brodix's that flowed 365-380cfm (big #'s back then), 14.0 compression, 272/280 @ .050 x .740/.700 Engle roller w/Rev kit, Isky rockers, a Milodon gear drive, and a kickout pan, Victor 454R, and a single 1050 Dominator, would make 870-880HP, and 680-700 lb.ft.

What's the rest of your recipe, or you gonna hold your cards a little longer?

  12. I got rid of that pesky water stuff on this engine....just filled that sucker with hard block......fixed that boiling over water problem:rolleyes:...hahaha

I, also am surprised at the aftermarket group.....Motorcity made a few cast ones, on
Only some of the whiz bang hi-buck builders seemed to be able to get them....there seems to be a bit of a market for them....I've got a pile of stock ones, but would sure like to build a "light" one.....anybody listening, Dart folks

  13. Hey....I've got that stroke....but the pistons are an inch smaller....dang it.

Damn 4.25 stroke in a flathead cant wait to hear this one.

  15. When I worked @ Ross Pistons (1994-2001), someone sent us a pristine Forged True Flatty piston. We copied it all except a little larger interior radius's for strength, and put em on the shelf with old 3/32 Grant "tractor" Rings, and they sold like hot cakes. We started selling them to Mike Tatom, @ Tatom Custom Engines in Washington state. One day he asked if there was any modern remedy for the flatties oil consumption? I told him I believed that modern metric rings with there narrower face, and lighter tension would actually have better conformability to the flatties distortion prone cyl walls. He agreed to try it, so we used 1.5 (.059 thick instead of .093)x 1.5 x 3mm(.117 instead of .156 or .188 oil rings). These metric rings also had a 1/3 less radial thickness (front to back, this cut the ring drag dramatically (which reduces friction/water & oil temp), and reduced the flatties oil appetite by 50%! Mike then had Crower grind modern dual pattern cams, and had modern type step tube headers with venturi collectors made, and whammo, almost overnight, his flatties started gett'n real happy!

  16. I had Ross build the pistons in the new engine with the metric rings, as well. I had them drop the rings way down, put more meat between the compression rings, anodize and Teflon coat them....I was trying out some off the wall relief ideas that I wanted to try, that "some folks said wouldn't work"...never was too good at listening....and son of a gun, it's working anyway....haha

A person has to be a bit off, or some sort of a masochist to run these ol pieces of iron:rolleyes:.....but there are still a few of us at it...at least 3 showing up....anybody else reading out there?

Skotz, pannenton They are in the final stages of making a all aluminum aftermarket flathead I think it's the guys that make the 27 roadster bodies can't think of the name of the company off hand my brother checked on one the other day for a 37 ford build but nothing off an original will fit but they are damn nice and have had lots of improvements not that I could afford one supposed to be in the 15-20k range anyhow what I really was here to say my caddy flathead has a 4 1/2" stroke but just a 3 3/8" bore the connecting rods are 8 1/2" long it's a beast but its also very heavy compared to a ford flattie

The AWB Chevy II was sold twice and now is owned by Speedwise, and he is bringing it back to the Meltdown this year.

  28. OH MAN! Your gonna be wearing a Cheshire Cat smile when cut that sucker loose! You better put a name on that girl so you can call her back if she gets outa shape! I vote for "Whoa Nellie"

  29. Those kind of prices is a good reason that my engine is a home shop build....got more time than money at this stage, and well, .....there is a lot of satisfaction when I do it, myself:D

4 1/2 stroke.....334 cu in....."our kind of Big Block".... I almost went that big with mine....just sounds like a good number. Heard that they were heavy, like the Lincoln 334''

What's your name....since we are both in the Obsolete Engine Club, we have to stick together while among "all these tin valve cover guys"

  30. Now that is a Cool, rare ....non-Ford.....bet you have to wear a bullet proof vest when "Restorers" are around....haha....that sucker just looks "right"
