Just dropped a grenade into my Meltdown schedule. Pulled the trigger on a new front axle, spindles and disc brakes. The old axle is 45 years old and more than a little bent from the abuse. Not to mention potentially brittle from the 70's chroming process and a couple of straightening attempts. I really wanted to keep the original drum brakes but in the end it simply proved to be a hassle to try and get it all packaged.

Hopefully I get it all in time to have it installed and tested before the big trip. I would hate to show up and fight the set up and death wobble all weekend... that would be bad

You still have 94 working days left. You can do it. Imagine sitting home and thinking about what your missing.

Don't think for a second we won't be there...

Worst case scenario - we'll be there with 2 static display vehicles because our dumb asses weren't ready... If this happens we will be sure to relinquish our pre-register numbers to the next worthy and active participant. Besides, one of our dumb asses volunteered to bring Canadian beer... in exchange for stories and food of course... :D

We are gunning hard for the original plan... 2 ready vehicles, lots of banzai level passes and a good time had by all.

    yah yah... AND bring beer...

Thanks Junior Stock love the 57 and high 12s sweet. I'm not expecting, not even close to those times with my setup at this point.
But when I first signed up for the Melt Down it was a few fun trips down the strip for old times. But now I'm thinking rear tires and different gears for the 9".
Finally got my front right after having the A arms off several times. Now I. need some 90-10 uplocks shocks to make it work. Who knows maybe some stripes on the roof too. Ron

    Hey Saxxon -

Scott, sorry to disappoint, but I got no fricken idea where you were going with that earlier. The sun is too bright right now and my brain can't see your thought..,

  14. Saxxon, my axle will be getting a sonogram very shortly to see if it stays or goes also.

So what have you guys been doing to your axles you been driving around here in mid Mo?

  16. Mine is 45+ years old & chromed also. I don't know what's under the chrome, material or thickness, and don't wanna go 140+ mph on a piece of exhaust tubing. The original hair pins were .062 seamed tubing that had rusted away inside to .055, and one clevice was cracked under the chrome and ready to put me in a pine box!

  17. ..,mine is also tweak a hair resulting in some extra camber I don't need.

Mine should be ready to go in the next few weeks, so hopefully no last minute deal this time around, probably going to have to put a roll bar in but can get that done way before. I can't wait for this to come back around again.

I made a few upgrades from last year. I did some more port work on the heads, just factory cast iron but should be over 250 cfm now. Bigger solid flat tappet 263/271 @ .050,. 610 lift and a new 4200 stall. 12:1 469.

Yes about 8 miles north of Jeff City wright on highway 63 the place that looks like a used car lot. Your a lucky guy living that close to a drag strip.

Hey guys I need some of your knowledge. Trying to go through my car and get it right for the year. One thing is that my kill switch will not turn off the car after it is running. I was told to take one wire from my 6al box and run it to it but that did not work. The most recent is that I need to take off the power wire from alternator to starter and run a wire from alternator to the kill switch. Anyone know if that's what I need to do before I take the time to do it. Thanks

Its been some time since I did my dragster but it seem like I had to run the alt wire back to the kill switch.

  28. Most likely your engine is still running off the alternator.

They do make a battery disconnect switch with 4 terminals to disconnect the alternator as well as the battery.

Poor man's solution: Disconnect the alternator when at the track and then reconnect it for driving on the street. On chrysler's electronic voltage regulator for 1969 and ealier alternators, one needs to pull the blue (ign) wire off the regulator so it doesn't burn itself out... don't pull the field wire... learned that the hard way... LOL

  29. Did you hear about the Meltdown Special? 1961 Chassis Research TE-448 dragster that we are going to give to a lucky winner!
Eric found it in a garage is a mess. Smokey Moe picked it up and took it back to Minnesota and gave it a ton of lovin. This thing is sweet. We have a bunch of sponsors on it. The big boys are Rebel American Wheels and Towel City Slicks. We got a bunch more too. I will update the list soon. Please mention the Meltdown when you call these companies to show your support.
here are a bunch of pictures Smokey Moe took at the latest show he was set up at with the car. The Gopher State Timing Assoc. show at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Great show and great people there. Put it on your list.

    Oh and by the way:
    Must be present to win.
