Here's mine. It's a late '30 (Nov 12, '30 engine mfg #), but it has '31 splash aprons and '31 grille shell. Or, early '31 and titled as a '30 in MO as someone on here mentioned was common back then. Still stock except for tires and wheels. I've got other hotrods that are high HP, so I think I'll try to find some period correct banger hop up parts for this one and keep it a banger.
I can learn the secret handshake now! My new-to-me '31 coupe originally built in 1962 and, other than the driveline being flatified about 15 years ago, it hasn't changed a great deal. Here it is at the Phoenix HRH, a reliability run that I failed when the generator and ignition packed it in...sigh. It'll be back soon.
Let me quietly sneak in the ballroom through the backdoor entrance with my recently aquired 1931 Tudor. I bought it from Detroit in Feb and it's floating somewhere in the Atlantic ocean as we speak. I should see it in early May. I can hardly wait to lay my hands on it for total makeover during next winter. There's so much not to like but I consider it a decent Project.
Does everyone think the 32 grill shell looks better? I cannot be the only one that thinks its tough to beat the 31 grill. It seems like the 32 is way over used. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
The 32 shell allowed to run a larger rad. to cool a hyper race engine. That's why I used it, but I do like the 30, 31 shell a lot!!
your right, I'm so used to seeing deuce shells on A's that an A grill looks un finished or incomplete! Think we need to have an "A" grill comeback of some type? Nobody wants to run those goofy looking 32 shells any more... If they weren't so shinny!
I'm new to this thread...here's my 31 tudor. I bought this abandoned project and sorted through a lot of problems over the last three+ years but really like studying others rides for inspiration.
Here's my 31 Pickup, under going a complete rebuild, hope to be finished for "BACK TO THE 50s", MN State fairgrounds, end of June.
I'll join. Been on here before. It's been a strange trip but she is now in good hands. New lower headlight location and the grille shell that started it all. 36 truck. Have a good weekend.
I guess I'll join. Early 31 PU (March build date), a running project with no real direction. The lack of dedicated direction is due to the condition. It really is almost "too nice" to modify much. I'm sure I'll get over it soon enough.
Like most things hot-rodder-ish, it's largely personal taste. I really don't like '32 shells on A's unless they are chopped down in size. I think the A shell is gorgeous enough on its own! Here's a shot that Jay (smokinflathead) took of mine on the Phoenix HRH "reliability run" (in which it proved to be not so much):
nitroborther- what a beautiful coupe. theHIGHLANDER- I can understand your lack of directions that truck is cherry!
