I like your set-up. That mini alternator is sweet. I have 10" from the center of the crank bolt to the frame rail. I could possibly modify the Hot Heads lower bracket to fit one of those alternators.

Thanks for pointing this out. I'll look in to this a little more.

Thanks for the pointer Jim. Do you know how tall this one is? The one I have is 2 7/8" and that's just a little too tall. The one you show looks like it wouldn't be as tall.

I have their lower bracket but there isn't enough room to fit it down there in my Husky. The frame rail is just too close.

I thought I fixed the problem by locating the alt to the passenger side but that didn't work either. The alt mounts back 7/8" further on the passenger side and this threw off the pulley alignment.

Just tried using the original water crossover. The old generator tab would need to be cut off and even then a bolt on the alt bracket seems to be in the way.

Trying to make off the shelf parts work has proven to be quite a challenge. I've been trying to avoid it by may have to go to this piece from Hot Heads. I think this will do the trick I just don't care for the looks of it.

I have that one too and don't like the looks either but I'm planning on switching it to the newer black -an hoses and fittings(from somewhere else) and possibly sandblasting the billet a bit to make it less obvious, I'm not currently working on that project too much at the moment or I'd share how it comes out.

Talked to them today and they have a way to easily strip the red and blue. I've seen nickel finished an fittings too somewhere but still would prefer the look of the cast piece.

Just for the fun of it I've ordered a double v alternator pulley. If that spaces far enough forward I may be able to move it back to the passenger side.

Yeah, I wish there were someone local that could look at what I'm trying to do and offer suggestions. There is a local guy but he has another home in Arizona that he is spending time it. Hopefully he will be back soon and come take a look at what I'm trying to do.

I did see you had a single groove pulley. Wasn't sure what it was off of though.

This alternator is kicking my butt. Tried moving it to the passenger side but then it's too close to the lower radiator hose. Going to need to rethink where the alternator goes.

I can't get a good look from the pic's you've showed us. So I don't know if you got the room, it look's like there may? But here's why I'm really here. Shhh, don't tell everyone this secret. Alternator don't care if they spin clockwise or counter clockwise. So with that said. See if have room to mount it to the frame and backwards providing the motor mounts are tight with little movement so the belt won't be stretched much.

If you go to the site it has the measurements it's just under 2" at the top of the ball. It's small for sure and it does swivel 360 degrees.

I'll take a look and see if that's possible. I did order another alternator bracket today. This mounts up high, in the middle, or down low.

Here's what it looks like mounted.

Wouldn't that type water cross over be easier?

Hose routing is more difficult with the stock crossover. I had it mounted on there yesterday. I could use it if necessary but with the stock or the cast Hot Heads crossovers there are interference issues.

With the stock piece I would have to run the hose over the fan or near the belt and the hose would need to be longer. Not usually a problem but I don't want any flex in to the fan or belt areas.

The Hot Heads piece would allow for a very short hose and if I can mount it on the passenger side it the upper hose will be away from the fan. It would look much cleaner too.

I'll get some more pictures when the new bracket comes in. Hoping it will be here Wednesday.

Here are a few of the stock crossover. I'd need to grind off the generator tab on the bracket. The fan hits it. I'd also need to rework some of the bolts on the alt bracket as they hit the belt.

Those cast in pieces on the crossover can be trimmed off and make the stock crossover smooth to eliminate interference. Once cleaned up and smoothed, it could be powder coated and will really look good, if you decide to use it.

Maybe some piping, with short lengths of connecting hose, to eliminate a long upper hose?

Always liked the look of stainless pipe sections. My old 49 Willys wagon had a straight section of shiny pipe for the upper hose and it looked really good.

    Thanks.

Yeah, it is a big alternator. I've been looking at the mini GM. Mine has a 5.5" diameter but the mini is 4.75". Then there are the Nippondenso units that are really small but would require a whole new mount set-up.

I don't think I like the way the alt dominates the engine compartment. I'd rather it be unseen.

In that case, I would try to mount one of the Nippondenso alternators down low - it isn't that hard to make a custom mount up if looks like it will fit down there.

There are some other ideas on this old thread also ...
