I'm looking for feedback on Painless "classic Braid" wire sleveing. It is supposed to look period correct. Any one use? it see what it looks like in person? etc It's pricey and I don't want to bite the bullet for several $100 if it's junk.

I have no experience with the painless kit, but I did wire my car using the sacramento vintage ford kit and was super happy with it. Just a heads up though, the sac vintage kit is not a pr assembled harness, it is an assembly of all the necessary components needed to wire your car along with very detailed and easy to follow instructions. Good luck.

I think it's only supposed to resemble period correct. They never had anything like that in the old days.

Depending on what period you're aiming for, there's probably something better you could buy. I like non-adhesive harness tape for mid 50s-60s builds.

Lacing twine is good for high detail hot rods 1940s-70s.

Thanks forth the input I did some web searching and found a few things. Tried JT& T expandable sleeving it is pretty cool, but not quite the look I want and also no way to get it on wires that are already connected at both ends.

So I bit the bullet and sprung for the painless classic braid. wow I'm glad I did. no more of the plastic convoluted tubing in any of my vehicles this stuff is nice and and real easy to use. I'd reccomend it to anyone wanting to clean up wiring and keep an old school cloth like look

Slit garden hose weepers made outta old minced tires look kinda classic too, esp if you're cheap like me. 8^)

Hockey stick tape works great where electrical tape is needed . Looks period and is super cheap. Lots of resto guys use it, that's where I learned the trick.

the two places i listed sell the split/wrap braided loom just like the painless stuff for less. Painless gets theres from similar suppliers. I used to work for a Painless dealer i've seen both side by side and you couldn't tell a difference at all. i forget which of those places we ordered from but it indeed was exactly like the Painless stuff....

Check with Dennis Carpenter. May have to call them and tell them what you're doing. The stuff may not be on their site, but I know they carry some bad ass, period correct wiring, fuse blocks, and looming stuff. There's a local HAMBer that is using it on his 49 Merc build and it is spot-on and very cool! http://dennis-carpenter.com/default.aspx

There's a bunch of places that sell just the wire and loom. I'm using a Rebel Wire harness and swapping only the visible wires with braided wires and using either wire lacing or correct era looming.

Another good product (among many) from a very good company, is the OEM fabric loom sold by R & R Wire Loom, Hudsonville Mi. :)

Yikes! $2-$3 a foot! I prefer a lot of alternatives at that price!

McMaster has it and its a lot cheaper than anywhere else I've seen it.

    Search for wrap around sleeving.

Not exactly what you are looking for, but I used dollar store rope to sleeve the plug wires on my T-bucket.Lots of different sizes and colors. I think I saw it on the HAMB a while ago.

Car quest has the cloth wire looms, but may have to be ordered from the wearhouse. I split a box with a buddy and it was 14 bucks for 50 feet . The 1/2 inch asphalt is cl 22 a and is .69 a foot
