As I started tearing into the frame, I noticed that the front crossmember is shot. This is beyond just a small crack. It's more like a spiderweb and while I could weld it, I wouldn't trust it and the pitting here is pretty bad. It was also held on with bolts and not rivets which leads me to believe this is not the original member either. I looked at buying a new one but had a stroke of good carma this afternoon when I stopped by a restorer friend's house to ask him if he knew where I could find an orignal crossmember. He gave me a ride out to his secret stash and gave me my pick of five! I've got some original A parts I will never use that will make a good trade.
