I do not understand how anyone could allow this to happen to such an icon of the sport??

Where is that picture taken? i'd love to have the dragster next to gene's car, i agree about letting the car just die a unnoticed death. It should at least be a "cackle car"

The picture was taken in Long Beach. Fortunately, the car was saved, restored, and ran at Vintage events in the late 80's. It's now in the Don Garlits museum. Good that the car still lives, but it's a west coast car. It should be out here. The car next to it is almost as iconic. It is Paul Sutherland's Simca comp coupe. I don't know it's fate. I hope it is still alive too.
