- The 1953 Chevy in my avatar, 1951 Chevy Deluxe coupe in pieces all over my shop
My name is Dave Locher.
I've been into cars since before I could walk. My Dad and both uncles were car guys. Dad had a really nice '56 Vicky mild custom and a '50 Ford coupe when I was young. They all had a lot of Corvettes and muscle cars.
I really got into '50s kustoms around 1985. Back then, in high school, I drove a bone stock (body & interior) '54 Pontiac w/an Olds 350 in it. In the late 1990s I had a mild custom '50 Ford coupe w/a 302. My current '53 Chevy is my first full custom/lead sled and my first ground-up build.
I am currently knee deep in a complete ground-up customization of a basket case rust bucket '51 Chevy coupe. It's going to take years because my job and family mean I only get to work on it a few hours every month or so if I am lucky.
I've got a wife, two school-age kids, and a garage.
I also played guitar in a long string of punk, alternative, goth punk, rockabilly, and industrial hardcore bands starting in 1984 and ending around 2000. I sold my last Gibson guitar to pay for my '53 Chevy body, a welder, and a compressor. It was worth it!
I teach Sociology in Joplin, MO.Interact
