- I finished re-creating my 1960's AA/Comp Coupe & Sedan (gas and nitro fueled) drag car that I ran until around 1962. It was basically a dragster with a 31 Ford Bantum Coupe body. It was last powered by a 1958 508CI MEL (430 Lincoln) enginewith 6
- CC Fordgers
I started drag racing in 1955 by following my dad around at the drags. He had a four carburated 331 CI caddy v8 engine in a gas dragster. The a 6 carbed 354 CI Caddy. He later switched to an injected 354 CI Chrysler Hemi in a new car and I got the old car as a hand-me-down. I put a 361CI Edsel (stop laughing) with 6 two barrels and ran it in B gas dragster class. Later, after yet another car switch with my dad, he went to a new car with a blown 430 CI Lincoln, I used a 352CI Ford bored and stroked to 428CI with six 2 barrles and also ran it in B gas dragster. As the saying goes,,,,,stuff happens and by 1968 I had gone through many variations of drag cars. My had a bad wreck in 1959 and mom made him stop driving. So, I started driving his cars. The last car was a 540 CI blown Lincoln dragster which we ran as AG/D and as an AF/D. We found out real quick that Lincolns don't like Nitro very much. They tend to puke the cranks out on the ground. Our best and most succesful car was our AA/CC&S car which we won the AHRA nationals at Green Valley, TX with in 1961. This car later on, for a brief period, held the NHRA et record in AAG/CC. Uncle Sam called and I went off to college and then to the army for 23 plus years. After retiring from the army, my wife and started re-creating our old Comp Coupe nitro car.
