My wife and I share a horse farm on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. At the moment we are considering buying a sailboat and living aboard for a while.
I grew up a car guy. I began helping my Dad work on cars as early as I could lift a wrench. I began riding and working on motorcycles at age 10. The first car I drove to high school was a 1940 Dodge, flat head 6, 3 on the tree, with mohair seats, suicide doors and vacuum wipers. I bought my first car at age 15, a 1956 1/2 Mercedes-Benz 190, 4 door sedan. It took an entire summer but we got the car ready for paint at the end of a summer. It was a 4 on the tree, had a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio and a brand new red leather interior. I paid $300 for the car and sold it for $2500, not a bad profit for a kid.
I've gone through a number of cars in my life but the current car, a 2009 Mercedes-Benz 550 CLK Cabriolet is by far the best car I have ever owned. It handles very nicely and the power and torque on the car are amazing. I've had on track driver's training but my wife hasn't yet and that's part of what this car is about. We both are truly looking forward to some track time in our car.
We both are looking for that special car to restore as of yet we haven't seen it, but we keep looking.
My Dad is now the historian for the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, so when I get there I get to see what it's like for the other half of car guys, the ones with deeper pockets than their tool chests!
Oh well, our day will come!Interact
