reared in Martinsville,va, right above where Clay Earles was going to build the track. I saw my first fast car at 5, Dad used to go to this place on sunday half way to danville on rt. 58 to buy a pint. This kid took me out back to see his fast car, a 1935 ford coupe, rumble seat taken out, he said he could get another 60-80 jars back there. I had no idea what he wa talking about. the car was dirty with extra lights on the back bumper, he raise the driver side of the hood and it had alot of chrome and was very clean! He said he got it from a man in Henry, va. out of this barn. I still did not understand but I had a uncle in Henry that I would sure ask about this place next visit. He crank the engine and I jump 3 feet back, wow, wow, this can not be a regular car. My first Hodrod/hauler. Number One. My first race was at Martinsville the next year, red clay, water trucks and alot of people that was very loud. I remember some kid from Alabama, another from Hickory and I met the winner a guy called Red. Everyone was cover with red mud, My Mom made us wash with the hose out back before we could come in the house to take a bath. Back to cars, I saw alot of these cars that use to park at this place my Dad use to visit on suday. The SEED was Planted.
