- 1940 ford deluxe.... I "officially" own it now, but it'll always be dad's car
Been into taking stuff apart and (trying to) put it back together since my first walkman stopped working when I was 13. I moved on to bigger and more expensive "projects" including cars of all types. My car gene comes from my father's side of the family. He and his brother have been "car guys" for forever. My first custom (not with a K) was a 1987 Olds Custom diesel wagon with a Chevy 350. The thing handled and rode like crap but went like stink. Next was a 1978 Impala wagon, with a transplanted 350 from a 1975 wagon. Nowhere near as fast, but it was BIG and cool. Then I went down another car rode. SLEEPER. I had 2 Ford Taurus SHO's, a black 1989 and a red 1992. I drove the black one daily for work and the red was my Sunday car. The '92 had a mandrel bent stainless exhaust, home brew cold air intake, chip, tokico shocks and eibach springs. Currently I have a 1995 M-edition Mazda Miata. I know not a "MAN'S" car, but it is a blast to drive and gets 30+ MPG. Turn signal intakes, 5 way adjustable koni's, strut brace, 2001 wheels, 4 point roll bar, and Voodoo shift knob. Oh, and I have a Jeep Cherokee, but it gets diabolically bad gas mile so it sits alot when it's not snowing. Currently, "the boys" and I are putting a supercharger pontiac v-6 (L67) into the back of a Fiero for the Grassroots Motorsports Challenge. It's interesting to say the least, and I will leave it at that. LOL
My dad's '40 Ford Fourdoor Deluxe has been in our family for a long time. It first belonged to his brother, my uncle, until my father returned from the service. He bought it from uncle Bud and drove it for a few years. He then replaced the flat head with a 331 cid Caddy engine. He fabricated an adapter plate for the original 3 speed and continued to drive it until after 1970. In 1970 he bought a 1970 Gran Prix and drove it as his sunday car, while driving the Ford during the week. At some point he parked the car in an ofsite garage and it sat until the man he was renting from sold the property about 7 years ago. We moved it to a neighbors garage and now it sits. I am trying to spark him to get it back on the road. I have ideas of grandiuer for it, but I guess all trees start as a seed. If I can get him to start on it I think we could get it on the road by the end of the summer.
I've lived in York, PA for all of my life so I have seen the Rods come and go every year (Harley's too for that matter). The pretty ones that come in the trailer are nice, but I like the ones that are actually DRIVEN, and off of the trailer and into the Expo Center doesn not count. Looking for some idea's, tips and tricks from th' guys in the know.
If I had the time money and resources, I would love to rebuild a Model A, roof-less, loud and fender-less. And a 1950 Ford Victoia. I'm not greedy.Interact
