... and many Corvairs in my pst.
I've been a car nut since about forever. My love of the Corvair came about when my first car, a 100,000+ mile '65 Chevy II 4door sedan, got to be too much to be worth fixing - nearly every week something went wrong with it. Being a Chevy guy, I wanted something sporty, wit a manual transmission, and that wouldn't break the bank. I found a 4-speed '65 Monza coupe in the local paper and checked it out the next day. One test drive and I was hooked. I had a standing offer of $350 on the Chevy II from a guy who wanted to build it into a bracket racer so I took that offer... and paid $325 for the Corvair! That car gave me dependable, FUN transportation for several years until I cooked off the engine by missing a shift in a stoplight drag with a new 1983 Z28. I had him by 10 lengths wound up tight in 2nd gear, but when I went for 3rd at about 55-60 mph, the 150,000-mile old shifter got 1st instead. Instant overrev to about 10 grand. Since then I've had about a dozen Corvairs, the most recent one putting well over 220 h.p. to the wheels. I had to sell that one a few years ago due to the lousy economy.
