I'm now 67, started playing with cars in high school. First one was a 38 ford coupe with the little 60 hp flathead, then into a 51 ford. Did a little drag racing back then when Detroit Dragway first opened (I was there when a corvette was the first car to make 100mph at that track) and also ran at the New Baltimore track which was built by the Michigan Hot Rod Assn. I ran the GTO in B Stock and did well with it until Wally Booth came out with his 66 427 Chevelle. I staged against him in the first time trials of the year. On that run he knocked almost a full second off the national record. So I beat on the Goat a couple more years and finally gave up and built the T in 1968. Just sold the Cutlass last month, reviving the T, which is why I'm joining this board.
Is John Buterra still alive? I saw his T bucket (he used to swear he'd never build one) at the NSRA NATS in Louisville. I really would like to reach John or get pictures of that T. It had a coilover front end which was really great and an aluminum dash with just two idiot lights. The car was all silver and I'd like to copy some of his design into mine.
