My dad was a real model A fanatic, a real buggy spring aficionado. Started wrenchin' and grindin' with him when I was about 11. Ended up building motorcycles by the time I was fourteen. First vehicle I ever owned was a BSA chopper when I was sixteen. Fabbed my own hardtail frame, oil tank, coffin style gas tank, etc. The old man was an old biker too but he hated the British bikes. He wasn't ok with it till I got my first Harley, then we were on the same page. Ended up building 4 HD's over the years. I had gotten a job at a chrome shop and that was a story in itself. Talk about a dream job...fab it...chrome it...bolt it on! Never was a car show guy though, never interested me. Got re-introduced to building cars after I got married, started with a '66 cutlass, then a radically ch/ch '31 A-bone (Dad wouldn't drive it, said it was too low) and so on for all these years. Opened my own fab shop in '88 which ate a big chunk of my time. Wish Dad was still around to see the '33 3w I'm putting together this time, open wheel (cycle front, bobbed rear), right coast style unchopped, 4 in. channel, tall and skinny ww bias, sbc (only cause I have two, but if I can find a nailhead....well you know) and a RAT 3 spd. Got some nice buick stuff also...53-55 guages,53 str wheel, etc. You know anyone with a decent set of sombrerro wheelcovers? Well anyway I'm sure Dad would approve. So that's about it, I just turned 58 and I'm semi-retired and still building with my own hands, the old way and I still love it. Most of my oldest friends are busy playin' golf or goin to the spa and they think I'm crazy. Incidentally, I was never bitten by the billet bug and I'm happy to see that it has pretty much run its course. Sorry if this entry was kind of long winded but once I get started....well you know.
