Growing up (I was born in '60) my Dad was always doing his own vehicle repairs, and switiched cars pretty often. I can recall a '57 Olds, '54 Ford, 59 Plymouth, '58 Chevy and '58 Ford in the driveway before I was seven, and I was always hanging around watching my Dad work. My first car was a '39 Ford Standard sedan, bought when I was 13, for $65 bucks worth of lawn-mowing money. Typical kid- I got it running, blew it apart, then found another car (a '54 Ford Crestline hardtop). Finished the '54, never finished the '39 (kept them both until my second son was born, when I sold them both due to space and financial issues. Other cars between then and now include 2 '62 Chevys, a '56 Chevy wagon, a '64 Chevy 1/2 ton, a '66 Chevy Suburban, and the current vehicles listed above. Feels like mine was one of the last generations that got to witness the golden age of cars- how unveiling a new model was an 'event', how you could tell at a distance the year, make and model of a car. In my home town, I worked at the last 'full service' gas station in the area, and we started our own car club (named after our favorite local band) because the only other option was to join the AACA, and we were look upon like juvinile delinquents by that buch. Anyway- I'm very glad to have found the H.A.M.B.
