About
I'm a gearhead from way back. My uncle owned and raced back in the 60's & 70's He had one of the first funny cars on the west coast. There was Goodies Speed Shop's "Brutas" driven by Jungle Jim Lieberman and my uncles car, "The Hairy Canary" There were a couple more, but those two were the biggest crowd drawers around here. When they raced, the Funnycar class was so new there wasn't very many regulations, and they were pretty wild. The Hairy Canary was a 66 Plymouth Valiant. with a Nitro motor sitting almost where the front seats were, and the driver sat in the back seat, basically. If you're not familiar with that model, it was about the same size as a 65 mustang. Close to 1800 Hp in a very light and short wheelbased car, you can imagine how squirlly it was. It was once clocked at 170mph Backwards through the lights at Fremont, it was eventually banned because it was too dangerous and squirlly. My cousin owns Team Eagle Motorsports and races an alcohol funnycar of the same name. I was a pit rat from the time I was 5 or 6 yrs. old, mostly at Frement Drag Strip, long before they ever thought of calling it Baylands.Interact
