I'm from SoCal. Grew up loving all things mechanical (Lions was down the street). We moved to the Valley in the early 70s. Had a neighbor named Pete(Valley Chevys) with a gorgeous (in my gradeschooler eyes) Silver Elky on Big and Little Cragar S/S. cowl induction and a black vinyl top.
..I remember VanNuys Boulevard, street races on SanFernando, worked in gas stations along Sepulveda Blvd in the Valley when gas stations had bays, hydraulic hoists and you could wrench on your own ride (or friends rides) in the evening. I made every mistake in the book and my hotrod dreams consisted mainly of learning to wrench and keep my rides on the road out of financial necessity. Now my kids are grown and I'm free of government intervention $$$$$$. I'm picking up where my dreams left off.
I can not think of a better evening than out in my carport (dream of a garage/Shop) wrenching late into the night, loud music and cold beer.
My new objects of desire are the traditional rods and customs. I admire these works of art and am blown away by the craftsmanship and devotion it takes to keep these machines on the road. My first taste was at Muroc 1999 while working on base. Still dreaming of Traditional Rod or Kustom, till then trying to learn all I can.
I'm a regular reader of OSR,CKD,Horse(I'll read anything I can get my hands on).Interact
