Bought my 1st HR mag when I was age 7! then discovered Car Craft,CR,etc. At age 18, I mildly customized my '51 Olds 88 htp.
Since age 12 I'd been radically customizing AMT "dealers' model"
plastic cars: plastic wood,then fine sanding, Revell parts adapted.
Lowering via "channelling" (overturn chassis, screw body back on!)
...and this was 1955-6, before the "customize model cars" hobby
