Started with cars like too many kids—got a big block Charger at 16 and blew it up. I stuck with it even though the parents tried to buy my sobriety with a new car. Owned a few more Mopars in the following years and ended those years with a Lil’ Red to pull hobby cars.
In the early 90’s, I did what many HAMBers also do--I dabbled in VWs. Never a transition Beetle—I went straight to split buses. Original paint and interiors; Km odometers; tube radios. It got ugly. Last bus was a ’55 Delux that is now in Japan.
Then I tried traditional. Bought a loooow ’59 Chevy from Danny Burroughs (Bruce’s Rod Shop). Ditched the Boyds for chrome reverse wheels and custom wide whites. Car is now in Austin and I’ve spotted in pictures of LSR and area events. I sold that car at the same time I sold a ’55, a 327 and some other goodies as the toy warehouse's neighborhood was being gentrified.
After a few years of recovery, I am back. I have a ’55 Del Ray I found on the HAMB. Going back stock, but low on this one.
I have been chasing a ’29 roadster for a few years. But, until I get it, I am reading the HAMB daily and bench building it and several different types of cars. Today, I would like a 3-window Plymouth /Stude with an inline or ’53 Hudson Wasp. Who knows what I will like tomorrow. But, the diversity of the HAMB will help me know it when I see it.Interact
