About
I will be taking possession of my 1957 Chevy in the next week or two. I have wanted one ever since I was a kid. We had a family friend named Biff who used to come over to my house and race me with a red 57 Chevy Hot Wheel. He used to say I could race any one of the race cars in his hand (about four or five) but I could NOT race the red 57. He said that was his favorite one. A few days later he came back and let me race some more cars and I would go into my bedroom and find a fast car to race with on the kitchen floor/carpet. By now I had gotten pretty good at racing for "pinks" (we would have to give up our car if we lost to the winner) and Biff told me to find my fastest car to race against his red 57...and I won! I WON!!! I had such a great time racing with him.
As the years went by, that car was my prized possession, I would always play Hot Wheels with my brothers and I always was the red 57. I liked that car so much I took it to my grandmother's house and played with it on her HUGE kitchen floor. It was huge at the time. (I was a little kid.) I ended up losing the red 57 Chevy under the refrigerator because her floor had a slight pitch towards that corner. I was devastated. I asked my grandmother to get it out but she couldn't move the refrigerator and could not reach it with a broom to slide it out because the roof of the car was tall enough to get wedged under the refrigerator. Next time I went to my grandmother's I saw the 57 in her Hotwheel car bucket that was in the closet. Someone got it out from under the refrigerator! I was so happy! ( I knew it was mine because my grandmother always had "cheapie" knockoff brand Hot Wheels) I told my mother that I found my 57 and she told me to leave it at my grandmother's or I wouldn't have any toys to play with. I was sooo sad. I wanted my 57 and my mother probably thought I was just saying that so I could take it home. Nobody knew how much that red 57 Chevy meant to me.
Few months later I go to my aunt's house to play and guess what I find in my cousin's toy box? I find my red 57 Chevy!!! I knew it was mine. It had the scars from being stuck under my grandmother's refrigerator in the shiny red paint on its roof. I told my aunt that this was my 57 Chevy and I could prove it with the scratches...or so I thought. My aunt insisted that it was her kids' Hot Wheel and I couldn't have it. I wasn't going to take any chances, this car escaped me once, twice, but not a third time and I shoved it in my pocket. Boy, was I nervous. I thought to myself that if I get caught my cousins and aunt would think I was a thief. I got it home. I continued to play with that car for years.
Years go by and I got older, but that car stayed with me and I kept it on my dresser. I even painted the Hot Wheel with model paint to freshen it up. I went off to the military and the 57 got lost over the years. I didn't know where it was and one day my brother comes up to me when I went to visit him and he hands me this old,Interact
