I just had my car repainted ('56 Ford Tudor Club Sedan) and I'm thinking of having the parking light housings rechromed. Can anyone provide general estimates of the costs per ***embly ? If it makes a difference, I'm in the Philadelphia / Trenton area.

I would suggest going to the main board and looking at the HAMB vendors. Even if you have to go out-of-state, I can't imagine shipping would be that bad- the parts are fairly small and light.

Keep us posted what you find out, I need to get mine done on the 56, as well as bumpers. The bumper cost just absolutely hurt my feelings, considered painting for now.

Prices for re-chroming the park lamps are all over the place $$$-wise. Good cores are hard to come by, most are either cracked or missing the lower center mount, and/or are badly pitted.

I did some checking for mine about a year ago, ended up getting one off ebay; driver quality rechrome (pits were smoothed but still showed) for about $200. And I have one good-enough used one till I can find somebody that's reasonable on rechroming it. I had a line on a reputable rechromer in the Detroit area but lost his contact info. If I find it I'll post here.

SlmLrd has offered (perhaps foolishly) to work with us on chrome work. He had his done south of the border and was pleased with the results. Shipping might be a deal-breaker, but it might be worth investigating. You might PM him and see what he thinks.

The one thing that really bugs me about my car is that the front bumper and grille were rechromed but the rear bumper was not. It has a lot of big scratches in it and sticks out like a turd in a punchbowl when you look at the car all around. I don't think that there is any really good solution as far as paint goes.

Any other ideas? I wonder how much shipping would be to Tijuana :)...

You might want to check on the Michigan members' social group GMB - link: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=21 and ask for some ***ist.

I think it was Denise (hotrodladycrusr) that gave me a few leads last year. Either she or someone else might be able to get updated info for you on Detroit area chromers.

Find someone local is my suggestion. What I have done in the past is have people drop off parts at my house like a week before we go to TJ. Once I have everyones parts, I drive them down and drop them off. My guy then meets me at his place in Chula Vista, we square up and I let everyone know the parts are in. (usually a week or less)

I like to keep it simple like that. The quality and price is right, but getting it all handled takes a little coordinating. I think I got my 52 grille pieces and both bumpers done and straightened for $325 and a $75 tip. Javier likes it when I pull up with 10 bumpers and a truck load full of misc pieces for him to work with. He hooks it up right, but I haven't been down in almost a year. (my chrome still looks good- hahaha.)

I've gotten several ball park estimates - $1,000 for rechroming both parking light housings (without extensions) along with front bumper & bumperettes.

  12. Sent my floated grill and parking lights to Procter's Metal Refinishing in Muskegon, Mi. He qouted $750 after Seeing parts. Also said would meet my deadline of May 1st.
Fingers crossed - on quality and deadline.
    Wish me luck!
I'll report back when parts are received.

Yes, I'll be interested to know how your grille turns out. I will have some pieces I'll need rechromed later this year, Muskegon is only a day-trip away for me, there & back.
