You will need a steering wheel puller to remove it,Harbor Freight has a puller set for around $15 which will also work on harmonic balancers and other things and comes with a varity of different bolts I have had one several years still works great.

re: those HF pullers? Get some hard capscrews as extras, just in case. I got one of those kits recently and tried pulling the strg wheel of that old '54 I'm parting out. Soaked the wheel center good with PB blaster and tried pulling it off - it didn't budge. Ended up pulling the threads off the capscrews! Wasn't the puller, it works fine. Just those grade 2(?) bolts don't take a lot of torque. . .

So I'm gonna get some grade 5 or 8s and next time I hope the PB had time to soak in better, and also hope I don't pull the threads outta the wheel. They can be tough to remove.

Sometimes, after soaking and putting a strain on the puller, tapping gently(!) on the puller center bolt will help hurry things along. Use care and common sense  when you do this or you'll end up damaging the threaded end of the steering shaft.

X2 on Ron's suggestion to replace the standard bolts with hardened ones.

HI, I'm Ken from So Cal. I joined this group about a month ago & guess it's time to introduce myself. I've got a '56 Fairlane Victoria 2 door. I got it with a 312, three speed overdrive, power seat & windows. So far I've put front seats from a '97 Lincoln Mark VIII, front discs from a '72 LTD, rear axle with discs from a '98 Blazer and have a 302 with a 5 speed from an '85 Mustang waiting to go in. Like everyone else in the country I'm waiting for the money to finish it up. When it is done I will drive it everywhere.

Not sure if I did an intro in this group. Name is Tara, from Traverse City, Michigan. Current project is a 52 Ford Crestline Victoria. Was stored outside for a good 15-20 years in the woods of Michigan... She's a mess. Restoring into a traditional hot rod. Currently dis***embled, partially in primer. Working on body work and floor panels now. I'm sure I'll be learning a lot here.

Welcome Tara, I'm pretty sure you did an intro when you joined. Anything new since the pics in your album?

Not much is new yet. I spent the entire weekend sanding last weekend. I will get some updates going this weekend when we start on the metal work and brakes. So much to do, so little time!
