Last witer we returned home from a meeting and drove into the garage, closed the garage door (remote), and then got out. To our surprise there was a mixed breed female 65 pound dog wagging her tail at us as if to say "Iv'e been waiting all night, where have you been?" Of course we kept her. It is sort of a privilege to be "adopted" by a dog I think.

Being a landlord I can see his point, insurance and lawyers are changing the world as we speak. Good luck finding him a home. Who ever gets him will get a $25 donation for dog food from me 'cause I love pits.[/QUOTE]

I'm with ya on this one with the insurance. I've got a Bearded Collie, a Greyhound, and a Rottweiler. When I got the Rott (best dog of them all) my home owner insurance agent told me that my policy would be dropped if the insurance company knew I had a Rottweiler. No kidding. I love that dog and he is the best with the kids and security for my wife but whoever is looking at giving this great dog a home needs to be aware of their cir***stances so that this pup doesn't end up needing adoption again. I personally told my insurance company that this was a Mutt and I didn't know his heritage. That fixed it for me so long as my dog doesn't freak out and eat a family some day. Just bear it in mind. Pit's can be great dog's too. Not just for security but also as loving pets.

Anyway this looks like an awesome buddy for somebody. And with all the generous offers that go with the dog, I don't see how you can go wrong.

Well, I talked to Moms. No dice, she's headed to KC tomorrow to get a Pit from a rescue place. Day late and a dollar short I guess. Sorry I tried.

Is there anything in your lease that specifically states that you cannot have a dog there?

If not, keep the dog and tell the landlord "tough ****".

You should have looked at your landlord funny and said "What dog? That's my sister!!!" and then stomped off in a huff. He would have never mentioned it again.:D

alright, two t-shirts, three magazines, $20 cash, a $30 gift certificate, some original artwork. Pretty soon this dog won't need any of you! He'll have his own pad with cool art on the wall and good food on the table. Is this just a matter of the dog catchin a ride from one place to another? Is there a really good home waiting for him if he can make the trip? I'm sure something can be worked out somewhere.

My shop dog, Roscoe P. Coltrane, at 8 months...he's a year old now, about 65-70 lbs. and still thinks he's a lap dog. Everyone told me not to get a pit, he'll eat your kids, bite the neighbors, etc. Horse****!!! The neighbors love him and the kids ride him like a horse, play rough with him, you name it. Pit bulls are the most loyal, tolerant, obedient, protective, and the biggest lovers of any breed out there! Anyone who gets the dog in this thread is lucky...

STIFF - that is one fine lookin dog.

We thought the same thing, always heard don't get one they will turn on you and eat your kids and you too.

FWIW - what I have heard about the breed is that when the line was being developed in England if the dog got agressive with a human he was killed right there, no discussion. They were bread to obey humans and there commands and when that tool is put into the wrong hands of idiots that teach them to fight they will fight to the death, because they were bread to make a human happy. It is a shame that the penalties for dog fighting aren't worse than what they are. There should be an intellegence test given prior to letting anyone own a pit.
    Rant over - carry on.

Is flying a dog cheaper than a human?

Be careful how you fly a dog. My dad sent a shepard/lab mix from South Dakota to Virginia to my wife when I was on a cruise in the Navy and they put him in an unpressurized cargo hold. He ended up with brain damage and grand mal seizures. The airline values damage to dogs at $50 or so, no value on sentiment.

Give a call to "spindletop rescue" or go to "pitgirls.com" these are friends of mine and I am sure we could find her a home. I currently have a handful with my own pit,Waylon. but I know that alot of hurricane dogs are finding homes.

two things...make sure this dog does not end up in ANY houston shelter...They have a strict kill policy on anything that looks even remotely like a pit.
#2. keep an eye on the dog in the meantime. if your landlord has a problem with pits, well, he could be the dogs demise.

I have rescued alot of pits in my time.(its just what happens when your girl is involved with a rescue team and you happen to be the biggest, dumbest signifiacant other around) Spindletop is about the best there is. we saved about 200 dogs or so in one year.
we also lost about 50 to heartworms, parvo,or other maladies.
in all of these cases, I was only ever made aware of one that was "people aggressive", and I am sure it was because of severe, violent abuse.

we gotta find a home for this pooch. she looks like a great christmas present.

God, I am sorry to hear this and see this thread. I will contribute to the pot for her if a Hamber takes her. $20 cash for gas, plane ticket or whatever.

My little story quick that explains why I can't. Or I would.

I sit here finally back in my office after 2 months of 7 day weeks 16 hour days except for four days off with my newest family member. A real danger to the free world, God forbid a Rottweiler! BTW now ranked number 2 on the most dangerous dog list.

We lost our old Rott "Nitro" to bone cancer 2 years ago. We could not even think to find one to live in his old shoes. You can never replace a great dog. Ever. You can only add to the legacy.

We now have an addition to the list of family members. I could of easily spent $350 to get a pup and go on. Instead I took this little project on.

Her name is Dame, pronounced DaMa. (German for little girl) Kinda cool when you tell he no. Dame No! Van Morrision tune keeps reeling in my head.

She is a rescue that would literally make you sick if you saw her when found and well even today actually. Heartworms, tapes, ear and eye infections, fleas, ticks, bladder & kidney infections, somewhat amemic and to top it all off a rope wrapped three times around her neck dug in and open raw wounds with an open throat wound about 5 inches long. Weighed 40 lbs. And obviously has been beaten terribly in her short life. Oh and needs to be spayed yet too.

Fortunately she has four legs and the rest looks to be in pretty good order. She was a breeders dog. Dew claws, ears and tail docked.

They thought she was 7 or 8 by the physical looks of her when first found. She now is figured for maybe two and had at least 3 litters of pups.

So far over $1.2K spent. And we ain't done yet. Am I ****ing crazy. Oh yeah! Ask those who know me. Besides tell me something I don't know. I am ****ing nuts.

If you ever meet her you will know why she is here. She is sleeping behind my chair after the first week of Heartworm treatment. I am cleaning up after her coughing up blood and edema fluid from her lungs. I have had no sleep really for over a week. But you just try to come into my, oops, our office or house. This is her and "Boss's" (the other rescue wonder dog) place now. She will not leave my side unless my wife is here then she is all momma's girl. Even has her spot in the bed.

She rides in the rod, truck, on the lawn tractor even. A shop dog. A field dog. A work dog. A lap dog. She is the most gentle and kindest dog I have ever had and one of the best I have ever met. Why she doesn't just bite everbody and be a menace to society after what she has been through I will never know. She took her heartworm shots without a wimper or any sedation. Tougher than me.

She is the poster child for abused dogs. There is no more abuse here for her unless unlimited food, heat/ac, fenced yard, water, love , care, spoiling, proper obedience training and attention cons***utes abuse. If so then come and get me because I am abusing the living hell out of her.

She is mine/ours and she is staying here. She is our little girl.

PLEASE Somebody do yourself a favor and do something for an animal that will appreciate what you did. This girl listed in the post needs a home and someone to love her. The price is right and you get a known commodity. People **** anyway.

    Sorry for the rant.

    **** it... I'll add $100 for a plain ticket...

And I'll restate - If you get this dog and don't treat her like a best friend, you will forever make an enemy out of me.

I'll call my cousin tonight. She raises high dollar English Springers, lives in Florida but transports to the Northeast. She probably has the best idea of transport options.

I'd take her, but I'm afraid she might not mix with some of the other animals I have in the house. Which really does break my heart.
