Hey kids, here are some pictures of some untouched barn cars i saw at an auction in Leesburg, VA. The story goes liek this, these cars were part of a collection that a guy started a really long time ago, then when he p***ed away his son continued the collection, then he p***ed away and the items were put up for auction. Some of these cars were in the family collection for 50 or 70 years. I wasn't there for most of the cars so I don't know what most of them went for, but i heard that most of the sedans went for around $3,000 each. The large Indiania truck went for around $32,000. I couple of friends of mine bought 18 wheeler loads of stuff including a pallet of 6 21" wire wheels which i'm trying to get my hands on. I haven't even seen all the stuff they bought yet, they are still hauling it back to their places. There are 15 pictures, so give me some time to post them all.
The second and third picture in this post is that Indiana truck. The thing was nice, untouched for a long time, mostly complete, even the wood looked good. It had a 10,000 lbs. capacity rear axle on it. I was told there were only 17 of these trucks made. And agian, it sold for around $32,000.
Thanks for posting the photos, and welcome to the HAMB! Makes you wonder how many other collections there are out there. Looks like that Franklin sedan and maroon two door were the best cars in the lot, T coupe looked good too.
Great pics. Good to know there are still old cars out there, just waiting to be discovered. Looks like these guys kept them inside and away from danger for a heck of a long time. I dig that T roadster.
It's the same ol' story from the father and his son.....whatcha want for the T-coupe or the ,,--------? It's not for sale ,,I'm gonna build it some day! At least the widow and her NEW boyfriend can have a good time on the money made from the sale! HRP
Some more barn cars I have seen, The red one sits in front of an old motel on Rt. 55 in Petersburg, West Virginia. The hotel used it in some ads, but now it just sits there. The black Stoooooody sits just outside of Frostburg, Maryland in a gravel parking lot in front of an old warehouse building.
I wanted to add a little to this post about the Indiana Truck in this post since I own two of the trucks myself and placed a bid on this one but had no idea it would go for so much. I found out about it the night before the auction and placed an opening bid online and then could not get back in to bid again but I did save the info on the truck. It was listed as a 1924 model 25 which would be a 3 ton. The truck looks to be all original but did not run and still sold for $36,000. I have not been able to find out who the new owner is yet but would like to talk to him and add him to the short list of Indiana Truck owners I have tracked down over the past 25 years. If anyone knows who bought the truck please let me know. I have some info that could help the new owner and if parts of any kind are needed I may know where to find them. Below is a picture I saved from the auction site and some shots of my trucks and things related to the trucks if I can get them to post. The one shot is of my 1925 Indiana as I found it in the loft of a barn in 1980. It was a body only back then but is now more complete and being restored after looking for parts for the past 25 years. I have a web site with more pictures posted if anyone wants to look at http://www.angelfire.com/in/Bobshome/indianamotortruck.html Bob
!!! Nice!!!! What year is the dump truck? I remember disposing of some wheels like that about 3 years ago. I thought they were off a 1940s GMC. $36,000 seems like a lot. (nostalgic reverie ahead. caution advised) I remember when you couldn't give these old trucks away. God knows I turned down a couple. One an international and the other a Pierce Arrow! I didn't have any use for a solid tire wooden C cab 3 ton chain drive truck at the time and wasn't smart enough to think of one. *&^%$#@!
I guess I did leave out the details on the dump truck. It is a 1927 model 115A Indiana Road Builder. This truck came with no cab, no lights, and no starter. It is hand crank to start and before anyone asks, yes it does run. Engine in both trucks is a 4 cyl Hercules size 4X5 which is 251 cubes and it is rated to run at 25 MPH but I pushed it one day and got it up to 30. That was a wild ride with that open cab and those old tires. I have loaded the dump full of sand and put the PTO in gear and dumped it like it had nothing in the bed. I never knew they had hyd dumps back then but it did come that way new as I have seen one other Indiana in person with the same setup and found some info on the truck listing the dump as standard on a road builder. The engine picture is another Indiana but same engine as my two trucks. Bob
I may need to go out in the barn and get a good shot of both trucks from the front since I don't see any good ones but here is what I have and can post tonight. Bob
It took some diggin but I found the listing with pictures of all the cool old stuff and the sale prices still listed on this web site. http://www.aumannauctions.com/cgi-bin/mndetails.cgi?aumann21 When the page loads you will see 6 ****ons at the top center of the page. Click on the one with the word Catalog on it and you will see everything. It might be best to put a drool-proof cover over your keyboard first. Enjoy, Bob
