So I was on vacation and decided it was time to fill the space on my 53. It took me a little bit longer than I thought it would. I wasn't sure on how to post the picture. I posted it to the above pictures. I also lowered the rear by reversing leaf springs (the correct way) with my three inch blocks. looks much better.
I have not really liked the grill that came with my car. I like the Desoto, looks like to me, "teeth" With the mods to the front fenders where the turn signals used to be, I dont think a stock one would go back on, Now the teeth would look good....
do you have any pictures on here anywhere of reversing the leaf springs before and after thanks.grill looks good.
thats what im wanting to do . i was going to do the desoto thing but there a bit rich . i found one for a 56 merc that i think would look pretty good in there . what did you use as your teeth?
I found a tech article on the hamb here. dont know how to post the thread. but in the search here on the main board just type "grill teeth 150" and It will tell you how to go about doing this. the teeth are from moore parts in CA. They are the 67 volkswagon bumper gaurds. I went to my local hardware store Lowes. and bought 1" sq stock round and 3 5/16's thread. measure your grill opening before you go buy your sq stock. I then cut the lenght of the bar to fit inside the opening. then I made my own to brackets and welded those on to each end of the bar. Drilled my holes to mount the bar. I then found the center of the bar from my opening, that way I know what is center on the bar. I took 2 bumber gaurds and layed 1 at each end at one inch in. After that I took the rest and layed them all out to what would look right. After that I found what I liked and spaced them with my measuring tape I think mine was 2 1/4. Made my marks as to where they sat on the bar. then you have to find the hole in which the bumber gaurd is going to sit on the bar. drilled my holes in the bar and cut my 5/16s theaded bar to fit and voila.
There's a thread on the big board about using VW bug bumper guards as teeth. Really cool, and rather inexpensive. Check it out!
I showed a co-worker (the prez of the local air cooled vw club) a photo of Vein's car and the first thing he said was "Hey those are vw bumper guards!"
looks good Alot better then mine looks - Might be I used too many teeth - I used 17. Or don't have any turn signals mounted yet?
here it is lower in the rear. it dropped it 1inch in the back. I think someone wanted to see it lowered with the 3 inch blocks (night prowlers.com). I put new bushings and shackles all from dennis carpenters.
