Makes me wonder what kind of reaction it would have gathered if they had dropped a beam on a brand new Viper or Vette or whatever. Nobody would have been pissed. Maybe they'd think it was a stupid thing to do but not be all "Oh my God that guy deserves beat down.... what an asshole blah,blah, blah"

I mean I agree destroying vintage iron is a shitty thing to do but c'mon:

#1 It's an Anglia
#2 It's television
#3 They tried and failed, that's the premis of the whole show.
#4 If that car had blown down the street puking flames from a Nitro burning Hardcore Merlin it would have been cool as fuck.... don't tell me it wouldn't



Just seems sort of hipocritical to me for a Kustom car person whose soul purpose of owning a car is to radically change it would bitch about someone radically changing a car. Yeah they destroyed it... so what. I'll gaurentee there's a shitload of restoration people out there that say every member here with an altered car has destroyed it as well. Lighten up fellas.

I happened to watch the last 30 seconds or so of it, which was enough to see I didn't miss much.

As for JJ, his show, his and Discovery's $$$ to blow, if he wants to reaffirm his stupidity yet again, thats up to him. Meanwhile, the other restored Anglias just became worth a few more dollars.


Is it me or are the things they build now a lot less creative and interesting than they used to be? (granted I watch it about once every two months now). I mean.. an Anglia drag car is never going to look stock (there's a rule that went out the window when it screwed up a couple builds), and it's nothing that challenging to come up with because it's all been done 1000 times before. I'm not saying it's easy, but no one has to engineer anything that never existed before or re-engineer something that exists into a whole different form, like when they made a limo into a firetruck or an Exploder into a garbage truck. This car, you can just copy what's already out there, what's already been done lots of times - the engineering end of it is minimal because of that. Making a DeLorean into a hovercraft, that took engineering (that one failed for a whole other set of reasons, mostly JJ being absent for like 3 days then showing up, not liking the progress and telling them to basically start all over again and build it differently).

Which makes the guys on the team look even more stupid for failing to get this one to run. I mean, you can build one of these like a checkbook rodder with all that free shit. I guess I'd be pretty pissed at that, too.

 

I don't beleive EVERYthing I see on tv, but dropping 5 tons of steel on car seems hard to fake. Only caught the end, I'll probably never watch it , hat it when they fuck up a good car. I've never seen the one where thay take a 69 SS big block Elco and turn it into a figure eight car, another waste of a good car.

 

well fuck, i aint gonna watch it now. that fucking jesse james asshole pisses me off. he fucking destroys everything, while us, hardworking joes, have to work to afford something like that. he can suck my ass for all i care.

We havent seen this episope in New Zealand yet-we just finished season three. It does piss me off when they destroy good classic/vintage tin like that El Camino and now an Anglia-especially when they are getting scarce even in places like here where they were plentiful years ago. On the topic of destroying old cars for "entertainment" movies like "Dukes of Hazzard", that new Shakira video(bitch destroys a Shelby GT 500) piss me off too, we pay big money for muscle cars over here in New Zealand and the less of them left to buy from you Americans the more out of reach of the average car guy they become as the price goes up.

Mind you can't complain when they(monster garage) carved up an ol' A bone in to a hotrod

This kind of shit just shouldn't happen. Send emails to Discovery channel and voice your thoughts...I remember when the show "Home Improvement" was on ABC, and at one point during one of the episodes, Tim "the tool man" Taylor drove his red '55 Chevy Nomad to a construction site, where it had a giant I beam dropped on it by "accident" crushing the car. I remember a ton of car guys bitching at the network, and they actually came on the next show and appologized, and showed that it was faked...But I doubt we're dealing with this in this instance....Monster Garage comes off that way to me...let's just fuck up some shit for the sake of fuckin it up...stupid, and that's why I don't watch the shit. Don't like what he does? Don't watch the show! Then after a little while, they'll pull him off, and he won't be on there anymore to meaninglessly smash shit up! It's one thing to modify a car from stock...even if it cannot be enjoyed any longer by the die hard resto guys, it can still be appreciated and enjoyed by hot rodders...this car was smashed, and can no longer be enjoyed by anyone...except maybe China because we send them all of our used steel...

I've only watched the show once, and thought it was the stupidest thing I've ever seen. This doesn't surprise me, coming from the big whiner. One of the guys doing all the work, musta not done one of his stupid half assed ideas, so he smashed the car. Oh well, what do we expect from Hollywierd!

OK, I kinda wish I would have waited and let some one else start this thread. I took it personal that "they" destroyed one of my favorite cars (Anglia gassers). Now that I've slept on it, I guess it's just show business and there's nothing that I can do about it, so I'll go worry about something I can make a difference in. This isn't any different than all of the cars they destroyed on Dukes of Hazard, Vanishing Point, or any other Hollywood project. That's entertainment.

Zman, you nailed it. Incidently, am I the only one that was scratching my head when the guy narrowing the rearend measured the tires OFF the wheels and never said anything about the difference between an un inflated tire and an inflated tire. Therein lays the failure.

I loved the show. It is a show and has a reality type twist. I am sure they really did not crush. Atleast I did not see them crush it. Geez guys, they get the best team available put you on a project and you are supposed to get it done if you dont you loose. If you loose you loose. Everyone should no. Knowmatter what your reputation is. Looks like to me the guys did not live up to their press clippings. Jesse knew it you could see it him. Strarted about the time to makes the headers. He had lost interest and new they would not get done. Even if they fired it up they would not have drove it. In the 50's-to even now it takes the guy that wants to push it to the edge to be different to get the fame and all the glory. Yeah your gona have your typical restorer guys that make headlines but it is stuff like this that makes a difference. It could be a 32 5 window coupe. He dont care he just wants to be different. You are forgetting that these were low end cars back in the day and everyone gutted them and tore them up to make gassers out of them. They were used for racing. They Would compare to a Ford Focus now. I am fond of Anglias myself since my dad has always had one but common who wants a stock one. The only I would have rather seen whas the front end raised up and a wide rearend under it. But I quess that would have bother some too since they would have hat too cut the firewall, rear fenders and front fenderwells for the headers. Oh well I love Jesse for being different and a leader not a follower. But always remember it is a show and he is making lots of money to do stupid stuff.

 

How many Anglia drag cars are out there? The build should be a no brainer.It's been done to death.Why can they build absolutely bogus shit boxes that pick up garbage,cut lawns, etc. but they can't build a car that would only take a little research and a tape measure to figure out? It's T.V. I doubt they crushed any more than a mockup.I'm betting it was as real as Jesse's cool. -Strat.

 

Haven't watched that show in a year or too. But we did go film a scene last night for next weeks show. Bunch of kids here in Austin built a "rat rod" roadster.

So all you haters don't stop watching yet. Wait 'til after next week when we're on TV!!!
