I need to get mine insured since I may actually get to drive it this year. What do yall do or have? How do I go about pricing the 56 mainline? I know what I have in it, but what would be a good base to start with before I add what I have in it?
I have a couple of mine with Grundy. They issue "stated value" policies. Google them and then give them a call. I've never had to make a claim, but their reputation is excellent. You can shop price, but when it comes to antique car / hot rod insurance, I always shop reputation. Just my $.02.
I got a quote from grundy and hagerty...both are good. I just read a thread here on the hamb about a week ago that grundy denied him service because he listed running errands on his application. WTF? I am gonna drive mine when I want to. I have two other trucks I alternate for daily driving, but softball games, nights out, grocery store trip, whatever...I will drive it.
I went with Grundy, and they didn;t give me any **** on mileage per year or use. Haggerty was a pain in the *** on other licensed drivers in the house under 25 and other stuff, plus they were more $.
I have USAA, 32 dollars a month for full coverage on the daily driver 56 Fairlane. Albeit It has NO MODS. Its cheap insurance and it doesnt give me anything back if I wreck it. I get the list price of the car when it was NEW!
I have Grundy; I had to place a claim when my hood release let go while I doing 55 MPH. They were out to inspect the damage within 3 days & I had a check for the repairs 5 days later. Rates are good and you provide them with what you believe is the value of your car.
I used Hagerty stated value. I insured my 53 for $20,000 at $200/year. I thought that was reasonable. I have no limits on mileage or useage. look around and compare before you buy!
i have mine with all the rest of my cars and house . with farm bureau. its on stated value and dont need to be with it all the time or parked in a garage . drive it whenever i want .
I have Hagerty . No problems so far . I have no restriction and can drive it all the time . $100 a year ! Retro Jim
Just got a Grundy policy for the '56. Premium is about 1% of the agreed value and a few restrictions but nothing that affects me. I was considering Hagerty too; it doesn't look like a whole lot of difference for what I wanted but have heard lots of good about Grundy. Hoping I'll never have to use it of course.
I think I definitely need to switch to agreed value ASAP! And, it sounds even cheaper than what I'm paying already.
Ok, thanks all. I think I will pursue grundy for now and see how that goes, I got 3 quotes...Grundy was cheapest, Hagerty only $50/year higher, american collerctors was $600 a year higher than grundy.
There was a thread on the main board about insurance a couple of months ago, here's the link: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=437611 I haven't read it in awhile but I think a Grundy rep chimed in with some good info. Ron
They had a segment with Grundy on last week's episode of "My Cl***ic Car" and some of the quotes he was throwing out were pretty incredible. I'm gonna look into them.
Just curious, with Grundy or Hagerty do they cover windshield damage and chip repairs the same way a regular insurer does ?
My regular car which I don't drive, is inshured with State Farm, they have a deal for clasic cars, I pay aboat 60dlls for 3 months full coverage. but you have to tell them that you only drive it once in a while or to shows, but you have to have a daily driver already inshured with them.
Who's going to the Beatnick Blowout this weekend? My friend John Parker, who puts on the Primer Nationals, had to can the Back to the Beach show for legal reasons. He has teamed up with my buddies from the Beatnicks to create a new show. The Beatnicks have been around for a long time, and have some of the nicest Kustoms around. This will be their first car show and I am shure will be spectacular. These guys have always traveled all over the world and suported everbody elses shows , It's our turn to return the favor and help support their show. It will be held this Saterday at the Ventura Fairgrounds April 24. I am shure you will get to see alot of Kustom 52-56 fords. If you see a guy with a top hat , that me, make shure you say hello.
Due to short notice or distance many of us probably can't make it,so don't forget your camera and pack extra batteries! If you run across folks with 52-56 Fords be sure and recruit them into the group,we are only 8 away from the 300 member mark.
re: Just curious, with Grundy or Hagerty do they cover windshield damage and chip repairs the same way a regular insurer does ? I'm pretty sure there's a deductible on the comp portion of the policy, I'll have to read it again & see exactly what is says regarding gl***.
Ok, an update. When I applied with grundy, I added this to the application when asked to explain certain responses to questions. They accepted me for the policy, then sent me some forms to fill out. The #5 question I said yes to was: One form I have to sign is an Acknowledge of Use policy and states in there: I am ok with that. Then it states: What the hell can I use it for then?? I plan to drive this car, not park it. I want to drive to work here and there, 1-2 times a week maybe. I want to drive my daughter around to softball in it, etc...she loves it. Guess I will be looking further, because I would ***ume if it drove it to work and had a wreck, they would say I wasnt covered for that.
Yeah, the policy has to fit your needs. Grundy is okay for me because I'll probably never drive it to work (just outta Detroit??? Yeah, right!). You might want to check with the agent @ Grundy or wherever regarding not driving to work etc.; I think they mean on a regular or semi-regular basis. Mine's a hobby car so Grundy suits my requirement for coverage. Ron
Have our cars with Allstate. Got a professional appraisal on cl***ic car and it is covered with Allstate now just like a newer car, can go anywhere and as far as we want and no worry about coverage. Value is covered to appraised value. Seemed like the most secure route to me. Premiums are more than Grundy, Haggerty or other specialty insurance carriers. But I have learned in life that you get what you pay for, often the hard way.
Well I may have some progress on this. I read some good things about Sneed insurance. Sneed is a local company to me in TN so I called them. They sold not long ago to ANPAC who offers the CHROME policy. ANPAC was doing their underwriting anyway I think. ANPAC also has local reps to me, big bonus. Talked to them and their coverage is for 10,000 miles per year, no forms or restrictions about going to work, errands, etc... I got the same coverage grundy and hagerty offered and it was actually cheaper than both of them. The only difference is the deductible is higher ($500), that is as low as they go. Other than that I am pleased with this arrangement so far so I can drive my car like I intended to. This is the link explaining their policy http://anpac.com/products/p_c/chrome/default.aspx
Guys, I cant take this I sent in pics to finalize the deal. My pics included a shot of each side, the engine and the interior. He responded with this: Now, let me post the Chrome program from their website. yall have seen my car, seen my pics....how in the world does my car not fit in one of these categories??? I ***umed it would be under M. The only thing that he knows or could see about my car is that its not an original engine, has bucket seats, has fancy wheels. Does this cl***ify it as something other than the below? * Cl***ic, Antique ** †, Modern Cl***ic * Hot Rod or Street Rod, modified, built before 1949 * Replica or Kit Car * Original un-restored ** * Modified or Custom built after 1948 ** * Exotic, rare or unique, in excess of $100,000 in appraised value **Vehicle must be at least 25 years old †Restored to original condition
