Look on the old waterpump for a casting number and post it,one of us can check our parts manuals and give you the info. Also just above and behind the starter look for a casting number.
either a 216 or a 223, the vin number on my 53 mainline calls it a 223 cu in. I think the water pumps are the same....just guessing...
So, related to this, but not meaning to hijack the thread, if it's either one of these sizes, is it just a different bore and stroke like most other engines, or did they actually have 2 different blocks and heads and all that?
53 still had the 215 (216 is a chevy motor). Look at my other post, I have a ton of pictures in my photobucket if you need to look at them for reference. Danny....I know the bore is different on the 223 because I have 223 pistons in my 215 and it's overbored but I think there are some external differences as well, like motor mount placement and some other odds and ends. The 223 came out in 54 which was the first year for the ball joint front end and it has a much different front end setup so it may have a different oil pan too. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
The 52 and 53 had the 215, the 223 was used 54 and later. The blocks are very similar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Straight-6_engine Distributor location is changed, the 215 is in the middle of the block and the 223 is near the front, Oil filter and fuel pump location are changed, engine mount location has been changed because the cross member was moved as the flathead 8 wasn't used in 54. I would guess the waterpump would be the same, but that's only a guess. If the crossmember is in the front and the distributor is in the middle and it's a 53 then the engine should be 215
well I learned something today. When I had my Vin number ran it showed a 223, but my distrubter is in the middle, p*** side, above oil filter. so Its a 215....why did I type 216 above?.....they are next to each other on the key board....
Don't feel bad - Clifford calls it a 216 also http://www.cliffordperformance.net/...de=CP&Product_Code=53-0030&Category_Code=F300
Dear lord change the master cylinder. Follow what Missysdad did on his build post. I did it and I'll be very happy with the piece of mind that if one of my lines blows out (doubtful because everything is new) I'll still have brakes. You don't want a line to blow out with that setup, trust me. I was pulling into a car show one time in my 65 Skylark and had that happen. Thank god I had a good emergency brake!
