Well my dads been building a 39' dodge p/u for a little while now. We have the frame to a roller status, and the body mocked up. Its been like that for a while now cuz my dad was working on it getting the body positioned and he hurt his arm pretty bad. He was just picking up one corner of the body to shim it a little higher, and he felt something "snap" in his arm-not a bone, but a muscle. Then he felt it roll up in his arm, and he was in instant pain. Well he broke a muscle loose from his elbow, and had to have surgery to reconnect it. The surgery was a couple months ago, but his recovery has been slow. He's been dying to work on the truck, and he's close to being able to. I decided to get his subrails & body mounts built, and get the body mounted to the frame for him. The body is channeled 4". I built most of the subrails out of 1x3 rec tubing. I worked on it the past few days, and got it all done for him tonight, the body is all bolted to the frame, and ready to sheetmetal the floor in. I can't wait til he sees it, he was really not looking forward to doing that part of it, and I really think he'll be happy. Plus now we can start chopping it Once all the final weight is on it and it settles, we'll cut the rockers shorter wherever they need to be. Heres a few pics as it sits
Your discription of your dad tairing a muscle was a little to good.It made my arm hurt just reading it. You did a nice job, and I'm sure he'll be stoked when he see's it.
Maybe one day I'll get a christmas present like that. In case you didn't know already you do good work.
I tore my bicep off once the surgery to fix it hurt worse the when I ripped it off. I had a cast on it for a while so I could use it pretty good until I broke the cast, you should have seen the look the doctor gave me when I came in to have the cast taken off and it was already gone. Good luck to your dad....nice truck too. Pat.
The cardboard for the bed mock up is sweet... Seriously. I would never have thought to try that and it looks cool and gives a good idea of how it will look when finished.
Thanks for all the nice words guys, I appreciate! Dad said the same thing lehr, he never wants to do that again. I hope it'll get him motivated to get back on it. I was talking to him today and he told me he really wants to get the body mounted after xmas, cuz its been a stumbling block for him on the project. So I think he'll be happy. I'm kinda bucks-low this x-mas too, so doing the old-school "santas-workshop" deal helps me a bit hehe Yeah wz56km, we actually built a quick mock-up be out of cardboard to get an idea of size, shape, etc. Its alot less painful to screw up a cardboard bed then the real thing. Plus now that his body is mounted we can build the bed and get that done too. Thanks again
That is a really cool Christmas present. Your dad should love it. What type of tires are those on the rear of the pick up?? Jonney
You continually amaze me how you can do quality work in the time frames you work within. It's some of the tricky stuff too. Hats off. Pete
