Hmmm, that museum is a bit east of Atlanta. I'll have to check that out next time I'm in the area. Looks pretty cool. Mini cars are a trip.

Get yourself a front wrecked bike... Build a front frame and use a VW front suspension... Build the body to suit.... instant Tinglermobile..... :D:D

I read somewhere (other than here) , that in France there is a special cl*** of vehicle allowed to operate without regulation as an attempt to save precious fuel. The cl*** if I remember is for 50cc motors and someone figured out it didn't limit to 2 wheels so there are homebuilt 4 wheel 50cc Moped/minibike "cars" that need no plates or gov't involvement.

Obviously the practicality and weight would be very limited but it would stir up some serious brain power from the tinkerer/fabricator (HAMB) types.
I would like to find out if this is true or not. Hmmm... dual turbo, CVT , NO PLATES OR INSURANCE, starting to sound interesting.

In NY, in response to the gas crisis of the 70's Mopeds originally were not required to be insured or registered until too many Yahoo's crashed. Having been into small engined homebuilt bikes as a kid then motorcycles later, in 1976 I got a Moped for fun. Then in '79 they legislated to require Helmets, iinsurance and plates - same as a small motrcycle which killed the fun and the popularity. I had the cl*** 3 (30 -40MPH) Puch Moped but because I bought it before the law took effect it wasn't ***led as such. I remember getting pulled over by a cop for speeding in town but laughed when he saw I was pedaling up to his car.

I still have the Moped but it's been hanging in the rafters of the garage for years, Hmmm maybe,....

    An early attempt:

Thank`s fore Micro-car exhibit! those things are unreal & some are pretty cool looking. As far as tweakin a micro, Go for it! Hell that`s what hot rodding is all about! I had an old Honda 600 car & a KZ 1000 engine setting around forever, but never got going on it.

  7. Ting....I'm sure you remember the old Morgan bike/car. There are kits out there now using modern mc motors. I worked on a few that were very nice. My brother and I started to put one together a couple years ago using a Honda 650 cc v twin, the motor sits sideways in the frame ( forgot what they call it). best part was it had a drive shaft and rear end. The motor hung out front where the grill would be, long driveshaft to the wheel mounted on the stock swing arm and shocks.....actually we used all of the back half of the bike. Wish we finished that thing!
PS the ones in R.I. are regestered as bikes.............

Buy one with a bent front end and a ***le... that would be the easiest way...

a gold wing would make a great drivetrain donor, especially with individual pipes for each exhaust port! 4 or 6, it'd be *****!

Maybe some T-bucket cycle wheels up front....

fad-t parts are cheap and plentiful, sounds perfect! how many straight axle vehicles can one man own?

I applaud the idea. Those velorex were a cool idea, and a hot rodded one would be a hoot to drive.

Technically it would be considered a trike. As such ***led as a motorcycle. I think the best thing to do would by a basket HD (though I tend to lean Indian), with a ***le. Transfer it over. Depending on state then may be a little more paper work, but same concept.

Consider the Morgan. Uses a JAP (Prestwich engine) and is ***led a motorcycle, though looks like the 4 wheeled car with 3. Same thing with those new deals I see around using the GSXR running gear.

Sounds like lots of fun. I understand exactly what your talking about and it seems like this is the site for this kind of expression. Use parts from cars that fit traditional rodding . Down size a coulple of bubble fenders from any big fender car. Mount them the same as in the photo you posted. It would be kind of like stream lineing the wheels. If this sounds retarded think of some of the old stream lined dragsters.

Gee thanks! Now I have yet *another* site with a list of cars to check out! :-D
The "trikes" are easy to build: you just use the entire bike frame (you can cut off the frontend pivot tube if you want - or run some tubing through it for a brace) & weld up a ****pit & frontend & you have it. Cool to - you'll have an inline shifter!
A friend has a Kawasaki 1000 that I plan to buy when I can spare the cash. I want to build a mini (but not micro) mid-engine sports car with that engine. I'm thinking around 700 to 800 lbs. max with a tube frame & 'gl*** body.
I did restoration work on Morgans for a short while. Not any three-wheelers, though. They're cool they have a wooden framed body that you just tack sheetmetal over, ditto on the doors. They're just like a homebuilt hotrod.

  19. Tingler - These are available here in the UK and Europe. Prices are not unreasonable. You'd be looking for a basket case if you were going to hot rod it.

I have good contacts in the trike world here - let me know if you decide to do it.

  20. I have been dreaming about these for a while now.

preferably HD UL 80 " Flathead, running gear under the back , top of motor sticking through turtledeck.

OK, you got me. I have had the hot nut for three-wheeled vehicles for ages.
Morgans, VW trikes from the seventies, etc.

Here was one from 1987, the TriKing of Marlingford -Norfolk, England. I wonder if they are still in business? This one was an update of the Morgan theme, with modern motorcycle engines - usually Moto Guzzi or Honda transverse VTwin.

One thing to check, though. Start with the Department of Motor Vehicles in your state. At the time ('87) Pennsylvania cl***ed this as a car and it needed to p*** ALL then-current regulations for new cars... I think this has become easier since, though.
