Anyone ever see a 4-71 Red Ram blower manifold for a 241/270- Red Ram Hemi? Who made them? Anyone still make them? I am strongly thinking of getting one for my baby hemi. Its got 7.1:1 pistons in it. about 7-8lbs boost sounds about right.
First thing to consider is that those pistons are 50 year old cast pistons... that being said, contact Bob Walker at Hot Heads and see what he has to say. He'll know if they were ever available, how rare they are, and/or if he's got one available for it (though it'd be a 6:71 if he does) -Brad
I had a post about this a while back, the best we could do is find a photo of a red ram with a blower on it... Let me know what you find out.
They made 4-71 manifolds for the Dodge and DeSoto Hemis. Never seen anything smaller than a 6-71 for a Chrysler though...
I agree with the comment on the old stock pistons. Don't put a blower on top of those unless you want to repeat all the mistakes people used to make decades ago. That being said, somebody today is making an adapter plate that mounts a blower to a red-ram dual-quad intake. It'll be your best bet.
I've never seen one but Gary Cagle had one on his 300" Chrysler in the 60's. I don't know if it was the small block or a 331 destroked.
Engine is getting freshly rebuilt with a 30 over bore. No stock pistons here. Unfortunately they are NOS forged stock replacement pistons from Jahns that came with the motor. So i am still at 7.1:1 compression. I think the hemi chamber and low compression would like a little boost. I have never even seen a blower manifold for one of these. I was contimplating making one out of steel or taking an offy aluminum in take and chopping and welding it for the blower.
I'm watching this post w/ a lot of interest. I too am looking for a blower intake for my 241. I know they were made at some point, but probably a very limited run. My motor has the right pistons & cam for a 4/71, but presently running 3x2s. I picked up a complete 4/71 setup & plan to run low boost. I hate to chop up a new 3x2 aluminum intake to build my own & using a cast intake isnt really the way to go either. DAVE
I have been fooling with the red ram's for 20 years. I have see one pic that I can remember of a blower on one. It had a home made manifold. I made a drawing of the intake flange. I was going to make a sheet metal intake for a 4bbl or 3-2's. Never did it but made the flanges. I would be happy to share the drawing and you could make a manifold to suit. I guess you know that the 241 is a short deck engine and that a manifold from a 315-325 won't fit. I have never seen one of those either so not to worry.
I might try it. I think it would be cool. I need to get an aluminum spool gun for my MIG before I try it.
I love the 241's and would be a buyer for a blower intake if someone would cast it up.. I can make a wooden one for a mold .. I have a NOS 6x2 edelbrock intake I got from a HAMBer/lurker I wonder if he's got a blower one???
Call Don Hampton, http://www.hamptonblowers.com/ I talked to him a coupla years ago about one for my desoto hemi. I got a quote on a whole 4-71 kit (around 3k, iirc) from him, but I imagine he'd sell you just the manifold.
An Eaton M112 would be a good match for size, see them ATT on eBag. Some ideas I had on making a manifold (of course, the discharge side of an Eaton is shaped differently, and the intake is at the rear): http://victorylibrary.com/mopar/blower.htm
