Hi guys, New to the board, and here is my 54 Ford Customline! I've named her Iris (because she's blue, Stern fans will get the reference.) She runs great, has a 223 I6 with a 3-on-the-tree so it isn't exactly born for the freeways. Needs to be rewired, currently the head, tail, and brake lights work, but signals don't and the previous owner never adapted any of the gauges for the 12v conversion. I'll probably swap out the chopped springs for some Aerostar springs and some better shocks to see if I can tame some of the bounciness. There's a few other things she needs too, but overall it was an great deal. (PS, sorry for the pics, hopefully I'll get her out for some proper photos one of these coming weekends.)
Do not...I repeat, do not touch that car! It's perfect just the way it is! Well... Some heavy duty gas-filled shocks will help tame the ride and some new rear gears will help the freeway manners, but don't change the stance or "the look." Too many new owners feel like they need to change a car just to "make it their own". Resist the temptation... It's just right!
Welcome to the greatest group on the HAMB ! Damn nice car too ! You didn't go wrong with that one . Looks Great ! Jim
Dang fine lookin '54! I like the stance it has also, the car is pretty close to perfect get the KYB's up front and the Energy Suspension poly sway bar bushings and links and it should ride nice.
Yea, I definitely don't intend to change the look much, the Aerostar springs should keep it at the current ride height, I might need to cut a coil, but the current cut stock springs are downright violent. It had a nice visor on it when I got it, but I just couldn't see anything. Once I get used to driving her I'll probably put it back on. At the very least I'll put it back on for shows. Regarding the KYBs, any details on which ones would be best? I've been looking at what shocks to upgrade to. Also, any details on the poly bushing kit? BTW, here's a pic with the visor on, and also a close-up of the lace and metal flake roof paint job...
The '54 Fords used a 3/4" sway bar the part # is 9.1556 for the support bushings,You will need to go to www.energysuspension.com and click on the universal applications there you will see a chart that shows you how to measure for the end links which you can convert to a part number.A lot of the O'Reilly and Autozone stores have these in stock, have them order them in if not so you don't pay shipping. In regards to your visor, www.ebay.com has a copy of the original accessory that was used with a visor put this number in search:220305720013.
man i love it!,I agree with Missydad leave it as it is.I just wish there where more of them down here.... 52's to 54's that is.. The striping rocks aswell, and welcome to our family, tony from down under.
was that car on Ebay? remembered right away, great find. car looks great the way it is, alot of character. congrats
Thanks Jeff for the info! I like the 6, may not be the most powerful engine around, but does just fine around town and get's great mileage. The 3 speed, on the other hand, I could live without. It was, I've been looking for a while and happened to find this one on eBay and it happened to be local. Plus I couldn't beat the price.
Welcome to the board. I bought my 54 from the same guy that you got yours from I'm sure of it. I will send you a PM.
