I have a 292 y block and I recently converted to the newer twist on oil filter. I have a question about how to install it though. There is already a plate that is on the motor where this new kit installs. Mine is cracked. I just need to know if I can remove the old one and put this new one in its place? I started the car and its leaking like crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know on the inline 6 that you have to screw the old plate off for it to work properly.

1hot1954 is correct, the old plate has to come off first. Be sure to install the O ring under the new plate. The large bolt maybe hard to remove and most sockets won't grab the bolt correctly due to the internal radius. I suggest grinding the socket edge flat for a better grip. A six sided socket my also help. Hope some of that makes sense.

Yep , It must be removed and they are fun to say the least ! With it being cracked it might be easier to remove .

I did mine as well. I think I had to use a 1 1/4 6 sided socket to get it off. I remember it was a pain, but worth it.

Thanks everyone for the help! I got it all fixed up right today. Wasnt too bad once I mangled the old cracked one. Then had to get an impact wrench out. Came out just fine once I did that. Got it all put back together and no leaks!!! Now I just need to get rid of that damn draft tube and i'll be ok. That mother drips like crazy!

The draft tube is about as easy . Close off the old draft tube with a block off plate and make a PVC set up ! That will be worth it's weight in gold and looks good too . There have been many guys that have done that one so you have find out how easily . I think we had a post on our group about that conversion or try a search on the main board .
