I got beat out by a Dodge Neon with a nice stareo and chrome wheels at a car show this past week end... What's the world coming to??? (Good thing I just do it for the fun of it. I'm happy for the kid who owned the Neon, he was proud)
I don't like going to car shows, especially open shows. I just go to hang out with friend's and stuff like that. Indoor car shows are a different animal, but just parking lot shows should be taken with a grain of salt. (also note, I'm just a kid, so take whatever I say with that same salt!)
We had a PT Cruiser win over the cl***ic cars this spring. There were 5 of them at this cl***ic car show.
I usually don't go to parking lot shows. Mostly because I see to many cars that are trying to be too many different things, but to each his own. JMO.
At those show everything from a 32 Ford with a nasty 460 and 4 speed with be there up to a Purple Gremlin to a tuner with a squawk box exhaust with the damn loud stereo going boom , boom all day long ! You have to go with the flow and just enjoy the great time you have at the show . Usually it's a peoples choice and if a bunch of kids show up expect the tuner to win . If there are judges , look at the ages of them , then experts what they would like . I go to a show to just be there with my car . I don't go looking to win a trophy . If that happens that's just a plus . I love traditional car shows more than any but I still love the Hershey car show that will be in Pa. in a week . There is everything at that show and a swap meet to be the biggest around that you can't go through in 2-3 days ! Just sit back and enjoy the time you have showing off the car you built . Isn't that the who idea anyway ? Jim
I go for the cars but mostly to meet people with the same interests as me. I have made a lot of friends and hobby contacts. Remember,it is a hobby, so enjoy them all. Any place where there are more than 3 old cars is a good time!
Custom_Crestline, You may still be a kid to most of us here, but you have more sense than and style than most other kids and the junk they drive. Just my 2 cents worth. Terry
well our old cars aint cool to the fart pipe guys . they love the sound of them damn fart pipes . funny story , me and one of my buddys was up in pigeon forge a few years back sitting in trafic . in his 56 chevy, camed up sounded good for a chevy. when a acurs comes up beside us . the guy in the p***enger side hung out the window telling us how nice the car was and good it sounded . well my smart mouth yelled back to him . sounds a hell of alot better then them dam fart pipes dont it . the driver got kinda pissed mostly because his buddy started saying the same thing to him . he got so pissed he started to open his door . my buddy smacked me and told me not to roust the teeny boper boys like that . all i could do was laugh as i was getting out of the car horse laughing him . needless to say he closed his door and farted away, lol.
We had a car show/cruise a few weekends ago that had many very nice cars, probably about 200. The crowd was rather young and the car that won "Peoples Choice" was an Acura that was done by a professional shop here in town. There was a 35 Ford 3 window coupe that was home built, home painted black and was flawless in so many ways...... won nothing!!! I quit showing at car shows, I do cruises where there are no awards just to get back to basics and enjoy people with cars. I hang with six buddies that do the same thing. Great times, no headaches.
I think Geno's got the hot track on this subject: Participate, but don't compete. This is not as rare as you might think, thanks in large part to the exact reasons Jeff enumerated. He's absolutely right, cars are often mis-cl***ified and the judges are idiots. Next time you go to a charity show, pay your entry fee (donation), show your car, but don't display your car number. No number = not judged. Eat the corny dogs, look at the cars and don't worry about who wins. Whoever does win, it won't be you. You'll be the guy who's stuffing his face stress-free.
You guy’s are right. I really don’t care if I win anything or not. Believe me our car is no show winner. The fun is in spending time with my sons in a car that I spent time with My Father in. In that aspect, I won when we pulled out of the Garage. But, if I ever do get compe***ive… I’m gettin’ me a Neon!!! Hehe
I will bring some pictures back from Hershey as long as my leg holds up . I go mostly for the cars anyway ! I took a bad fall last week . Slipped on wet rock and fell into a ditch about 3 feet down and landed on my right leg and hand . Hand & arm took the most but my right leg under my knee won't stop hurting ! No bruises but hurts to walk and stand a long time . Jim
