On the dash pics you can see the front windshields are in. the dash is painted with dupli-color machinery grey(3.80 can) and i didn't cheap out and used a whole can. i'll get it outside for some better pics soon. I'm very happy with this build so far.
had this afternoon to work on the truck. got the throttle hooked up, all the gl*** is in, fan for rad hooked up, seat bolted down. working on shifter and e-brake tonight. thanks for the positive comments. if the weather improves i should get it outside for some pics soon.
Hey Pex, where are the updates. I am expecting you to drive up in my driveway any day now for a frosty beverage and a shakedown cruise
well i've been busy and no one mentioned frosty beverages. i think i'm going to have to stick a flat deck on it so i can get some miles on it while i'm working on the art deco style deck. i get my insurance tomorrow.
Again the powers that be are testing me. i had the engine running and then all hell broke lose. first the trans was no good so i changed that.(tues) then the alt decided to fry it self so i unhooked that.(last night) then i went for a short drive and i was tickeled until it quit and i put it back in the shop and after having breakfast with the guys today i proceded to try to figure out WTF was happening.well i just came in after a day of trying to figure out whats going on. as far as i can tell, the camshaft is pouched and i screwed up a valve or two by overadjusting the valves, even the fuel pump isn't pumping so after changing it i decided that its posible the cam broke. now if this isn't enough the rad sprung a leak when it got up to 180 degrees. tomorrow i will shoot a handfull of gofers to apease the gods and start over. if i didn't have a gl*** half full outlook on life i'd be a basketcase. i have a 350 out of my old work truck,if that dosn't work i'll sell a kidney and buy a crate engine. update in a few days.
.Now Greg, you know that just shooting the gofers is not enough to please the gods. You must cook up a couple of deep dish hot gofer pies and eat them for the best luck. Sorry to hear of all your woes but in my case if I don't do it at least 3 times it isn't done. Hang in there and just do it one step at a time and keep a positive outlook it WILL come together -Donn-
The problem was that the patriot heads i spent my hard earned money on are junk and after running for a short period the intake gasket let go above the runners. the sheep loving hillbillys who manufacture these fail to mention anywhere you need oversize gaskets if you run victor jr or preformer intakes. I wasted a weekend and alot of money.
so i took the patriot heads back to my supplier and went with rebuilt OEM heads. i would never feel confident running the aluminum ones after the grief they caused. i'm still not sure if i damaged the cam and lifters but will find out this weekend. i know i said i'd post some new pics soon. i hoping sunday. i also pulled the engine from my old work truck and cleaned it up just in case. i will not be defeated.
Well after a few bumps and not having a rad i drove the truck off the lift and turned it around outside. seems to run just fine with all the gauges and electrics working. time to get after sanding and build some kind of deck for the bonneville trip.
changed out the rad and have been getting the bugs worked out. rides really good even without the weight of the deck. i've got a few days set aside so i'm hoping to get lots of little things done. donn- i'm thinking of comming to your place wed the 10th of aug then meeting up with the guys fri the 12th. looking forward to our visit and getting some work done on your c.o.e. greg
Greg, Looking forward to your visit. You are going to drive the COE down right? If you need a place to gather the "guys" I have 20 acres here and anyone is welcome. -Donn-
yes donn- the c.o.e. will be coming with. had it up to 70mph today and i can't believe how much sandblasting sand is still showing up, i must have forgot to remove the beach. LOL might have to change out the high pressure oil pump, its hard to seal up the engine with that kind of oil pressure(50-70psi) yikes
Hi Guys Yes I know I have been very quiet lately but I have been flat out like a lizard drinking, (old Aussie saying) for busy What I would like to see though is bigger pics of Pex's Fords COE, can't see much detail in little pics. Please !!! Yes I have been working on my 41 Ford COE, every day !! Seeya Bill
Great COE! Thanks for posing it's progress. I just brought home a 1941 that won't move nearly as fast as yours! What did you do for a windshield? Looks like no center bar. thanks! Rick
Bill-i'm in the middle of sanding but i'll take some bigger pictures soon. what do you want to see? i'll get some help as i don't know how to make them bigger. rick- the windshields are glued in using butyl tape and urethane with a v- **** in the center with a bead of clear silicone to seal it up.
Bill- you could go to my flickr acct and click on them to make them bigger. http://www.flickr.com/photos/55375317@N02/5138259849/
Pex, that is VERY Cool! You lose the flip out ability, right? I really like the idea of being able to flip out the windshield, but I also am going for highway driveability. I suspect your setup will be MUCH quieter than 2 pieces that can flip. Rick
Hi Pex Have found your FlickR site sand have download over 60 photo's so far, A picture tells a thousand words or something like that. thank you Seeya Bill
so i spent around 40hrs on the quickie deck( nothing is quick anymore ). also have been sanding and i hate sanding. i'm finished to 80 grit and its getting smoooooooooooth!!!!!!!!! hope to get into another coat of primer tomorrow or monday. i mixed up a color today for the primer. i'll say its a one of kind and it should pop. stay tuned LOL
Well look at you, poster boy for Texaco. The color combo matches, red neck and lilly white legs........ kidding man, looks great. Just checked out your flicker album. Quickie deck looks great
Awesome!!! Thanks for the thread, the pics and especially the motivation! I only hope mine can come out 1/2 as nice.
