Hey guys my name is John, I'm new to the group. I have a 1954 Ford with a 1958 292 Y Block in it... Nothing to special yet, basically stock with a 4 barrel and ECZ-G heads, the car is lowered, frenched head and tail lights with rounded door corners and heavy metal flaked roof. I have another 292 waiting for the works with a tri power to top it all off hoping to build a model A around that engine. John
welcome along , at least in this group you don't grow old waiting for a response or new discussions !
Welcome to the best group on the HAMB ! Car sound very nicely done . Got ant more pictures of your car so we can all take a closer look ? Jim
John , I just took a cruise over to your profile to check out your car . Very nice ! There sure is a lot of metal flake on that roof ! I do like that black . Whose is that and is that a satin of some sort ? The WWW look real good too with the hubcaps . I have a set of Lancer crossbars for mine . So I guess that other y block with the 3x2 is the one you are going to build . What size cam are you going to put in that one ? Jim
Thanks Jim... For some reason th flake is hard to get in pictures if its too sunny out. The Black paint is by Omni its an acrylic urathane with the eggshell finish. As far as the other Y Block I am planning on boring it .080 over and using either an Isky F300 or RPM 300... I may then put that in the 54 or use it for a project and do roughly the same to the other. John
John , is .080 around a 312 ? The Isky F300 is a very nice street/strip cam with a nice lope . I do like that black color you have , kind of similar to a satin black . Jim
Hey Jim, the 292 bore is 3.75 stock, 312 is .050 over that at 3.80 so it will end up being 3.83 bore... I believe thats around 325 John
John , I knew it was pretty close to that but was just guessing off hand on the size . Most block usually don't get bored that much but with the Y block , you got all kinds of extra space . You can use some .060 , 312 pistons and rods . Then get a good 312 crank and have the mains turned down to fit into the 272/292 block . Then you have a nice .060 - 312 engine . That would be a nice upgrade ! Jim
