1952-59 Ford been working on my adapter plate

  1. i wonder what our best option would be..either getting the saginaw universal pitman arm and having it bent to the same shape as our originals. the ebay seller was willing to do this for $175.00 including pitman arm. or modifying ours. I guess what was going on in those pictures is exactly what riskybiz described in his last post. so now what does the borgeson gear box have as a sector shaft? anyone buy the borgeson kit yet?

I'm not real thrilled about heating my original pitman arm and stretching it where it goes on the sector shaft.

I've been searching the web and from what I've found the GM guys are using the stock GM pitman on the Delfi box, I'm only guessing but there has to be a pitman out there that will bolt on and only have to be bent to the shape of the '55-'56 Ford pitman. I still have the stock Jeep pitman on my steering box but I dont have my '55 here to compare it to the stock Ford pitman, maybe it can be modified to work. If all else fails I think I'm going to buy the universal arm and bend it to the correct shape.

  5. i found a couple jeep steering box's on craiglist..just waiting to hear back if they are the same as the delphi's we have..they're only $20 so i would'nt care about chopping up a $20 steering box and i can try the mod on the pitman arm from my 55 customline parts car i have. if the splines from the chevy do match and the angle is a little different it should not take much to heat up that pitman and bend it into shape..

If the Chevrolets use the same spline then you can use the shaft out of one of them to modify your '55 pitman arm.

I'm not familiar with the '52-'53 steering box but if it has the long sector shaft like the '55-'56 Fords than I would say yes, with the necessary modifications of course.

Does the Jeep Box require the frame to be cut and welded so the box will fit?

  10. yes it does. no way around it. If you go with the borgeson P/S kit you do NOT have to notch your frame

The Borgeson was what I used. I hated to cut up the frame behind the left A arm. I got mine from Amazon. Was the Cheapest price and it bolts right in with no problems.
