actually I should call it an equipment swap. I have a 77 granada donor car, w/ 302, 4sp manual, 9" rear, and disc brakes, which are all goin' on my 54 ford. so I pulled the engine and trans out, tore off the heads and intake, and sent the heads in for inspection and resurfaceing. and aside from smackin' my right middle finger on the engine hoist (still hurts) everything went preaty smoothly. heads, cylinders, pistons, and fluids all look preaty good, so I think I made a good investment. I do have a coupple questions though. 1, I heard the , 65 galexy mototr mounts are a good setup for 54's, any thoughts? 2, what headers will work with 302 in 1954 customline? 3, anyone heard of TAM ENG. CORP? had a tag stuck to the block, so I ***ume my engine's been rebuilt once already.
Do Not use the Galaxcy mounts as it will have the engine setting too low and you will be adding spacers, use these mounts ANCHOR 2725(L) ANCHOR 2726(R) these are late model Mustang,Lincoln MK VII mounts and are taller.Check out member Screenz posts for headers only the Tri-Y's will work if the collectors are modified, refer to His pics.
thanks for the info on the mounts jeff. as for the exhaust, I think I'm just gunna run manifolds for now. might make a set of headers later after I cut out my inner fender wells.
Doesn't look like they've been around for a while, at least nothing comes up for them doing a quick search. But from the looks of it it looks like they would have had a lot of Ford rebuilding experience. "TAM Engineering was an authorized Ford engine rebuilding shop. Its machine shops would rebuild Ford V-8 engines as well as ***emble carburetors and automobile brake shoes; all of these would be bench tested when finished. View of exterior of TAM building on South Lawrence St.; four cars are parked close to the building and a trailer labeled "Ford Exchange Engines" is next to the loading dock. Welcome to the site. BTW if that trans is original to the Granada, it's a overdrive unit, and not really strong.
The Granada overdrive is actually pretty strong, its based on the Ford toploader 4 speed, I'm not saying its ready for the drag strip but it will hold up real nice in a street car. Many of the early toploader 4 speed parts can be used in the Granada box, many years ago one of the major magazines did a "how to" artical showing what parts to use to make it into regular 4 speed without overdrive. The Granada box was also used in Ford pickup trucks.
thanks guys. yeah, I know it's a 3sp with O/D. but it's easier to say 4 sp. I'm not building m***ive power. just a street rumbler. but I appreciate the heads up. sent my heads up to have checked out, resurfaced, and have valves lapped in. hopefully have em back soon. once I have the engine back together I'll poast some pics.
just an update, unfortunately no pics as of yet. As I mentioned b4, I sent my heads in to get worked over. so far the cores look good, but apparently I need a valve job preaty badly, and thanks to a good friend of mine that works at the machine shop, the work's getting done for free as a birthday/christmas present, all i gotto pay for is parts, and the re-surfaceing. damn I love my friends. p.s. to anyone liveing in western washing, in lewis and thurston county, Johnson Machine in tumwater is the place to go. good work, and good dudes workin there. plus the owner is a ford guy
