Thank you for explaining the splash apron to me. I thought that it might be what I've seen referred to as the stone guard.

Jeff I will go check that site out again and see if that is a possibility for me. I got the measurements from the water pump pulley to the radiator at 1 1/4" last night, so I'm really hurting on space but I'm sure with enough staring at the thing I will figure out how to make more room. Thanks again for everyones help so far.

On my 54, when I put the windsor in it, I wanted more clearance for the fan, so I cut my splash pan and moved the radiator forward by using the side plates (the ones soldered to the radiator) from a 1956 Ford. On the 54 the rad sits behind the rad cradle, and on the 56 it sits in the rad cradle. When I changed to the 390, I still had lots of room for a fan.

The ones I have used as a pusher didn't have a shroud . It was a 15" and the only normal air blockage was from the electric motor it's self . Never had a problem . I have seen the ones with the big shrouds with the electric fan should only be used as a puller fan .
Is there enough space to get a set of small twin fans in there ?
I didn't read all the posts so someone might have already suggested this , but is there enough space for the radiator to be mounted on the front side of the radiator frame for extra space . I also use the early 289/302 water pumps and early Mustang radiators as well and has worked good for me with plenty of room left for a stock or flex fan .
Just a few thoughts from some things I have done over the years .

FWIW... When my 54 had the stock radiator and core support they bolted together without any noticeable space between the side shrouds and the core support. Everything was nice and snug without any spacers.
